Very nice photos. I just purchased a full frame Nikon, but will not take it on vacation. I took my Canon G7X 2 and had a print made into a 16 x 20, with no noticeable noise.

I bought my D810 in 2015 and promptly took it to England on vacation to give it a road test. Then I took it back in 2016. Some may call me a wimp, but traveling with a big camera and a bag full of lenses seemed a bit of a pain. I"m not 20 any longer, or 30, or 40... you get the idea. When you carry a lot of gear, it becomes the focus of your existence, and while I appreciated the pictures I took, I think that lugging this stuff around took away from the "vacation" experience with my wife. The Canon is good enough. I use the D810 exclusively closer to home.

My son in-law uses the RX 100 Mark 5 and loves it. I use the Canon G7X Mark 2 when I don't feel like carrying around my Nikon D810. I increased the sharpening to my liking and took many nice pictures with it in England last year. If you really want a very small camera with a 1" sensor, consider the Panasonic DMC-ZS100. I found the zoom range lacking many times with my Canon. The Panasonic has far greater reach on the long end, 250mm equivalent.

But do you want a camera with a 1" sensor? I can't answer how picky you are. 1" is still quite small as things go. There is no way you're going to get what you get from your Nikon DSLR, but how much does it matter? Maybe you can borrow or rent one of these cameras to see if it's adequate for your needs. I have no problem with my camera for vacation pictures and normal sized enlargements.

The Canon G1x III is APS-C and has EVF.

The point of posting my pictures was to have people determine if a 1" sensor is adequate for them. APC-C should wipe the floor with it, but it's going to mean a bigger camera. I like the fact that I can put my little Canon into my pocket.

Well the G1x III fits in my pockets but not a small shirt pocket. :).
It’s obviously a trade off. I’ll probably use a belt pouch, though.

A "bridge" camera is a camera that is more sophisticated than a point and shoot but simpler than a DSLR. Usually, it will be a SLR type camera that has one fixed (non-interchangable) zoom lens with a very long zoom range. (Back in the film days, some people called them ZLRs, zoom lens reflexes.) In other words, it is a "bridge" between a point and shoot and an SLR.

It’s sort of a loose category which usually includes advanced point-and-shoot cameras which have many of the controls of a DSLR without the removable lens. Ie, a bridge between the two categories.

Thanks for the quick responses. Would some of the Nikon Coolpix with fairly high MPs and large zoom ratios be in that category? Thanks again.

There's a pretty good 'simple' article at:

Having just gotten back from Best Buy, I think it would be accurate to say that most if not all bridge cameras today are actually mirrorless and not SLRs. I saw some good examples from Nikon Coolpix, Sony, and Canon.

Took a trip to Charleston for anniversary and only brought the G7 x mark 11. Happy with that decision.. If I am going out to shoot my usual wildlife then have my 7D, the 100-400 with a tele convertor but leave the wide angle at home as the G7 is smaller and lighter then the lens and don't have to change.

It might be good, at some point, (especially for us rookies) ~ to reveal that a 1" sensor is not a 1 inch sensor. Going and looking at a sensor comparison graphic, might be prudent, and informative.

And another reminder that the G1x III is APS-C.
