While I feel your pain; just go ahead and re-install your system. Do the iMac first and see if that works. Then do the MBPro. This is exactly one of the reasons you own Apple. I have done that it the past to correct a corrupted file issue as well. The process is simple and painless. While you can easily do this yourself; Apple will take you through this step by step. As Michael Jordan says.."Just Do It!"
Im have my Photomatix is getting dropped now and Apple has not solved it. I know I don't lose the picture but I have to redo the work. I guess that Apple is trying to do fixes on the upgrades

OK, OK, I'll do it. Thanks for the prod. Can you suggest somewhere online that lists the procedure?
Call Apple. They will take you through this for FREE!
OK, will do. I'll report back when it's done.

If I do that will the EXIF data move to the new library with the photos? That would give me the date each photo was taken and make it easier to put it in the right album.
Yes- All the EXIF data should move along with the photo files.
I called Apple and just finished reinstalling OS 10.13.3. Well, THAT WORKED!!!!! At least, so far. I say that only because back in January when all this started, the symptoms ramped up gradually over time. So, my confidence is at something less than 100% right now. Of course, I will post again when enough time has gone by without incident. I also have to reinstall the OS on my MacBook Pro, but that should yield the same results.
Thanks to all of you for your help! I feel like a free man again ;-)
Good to hear. Just another undervalued reason to go with Apple.
Apple service it self is with the price.
Have you tried to close Photos? Then before you restart hold down the Option key. This will rebuild your library. That might do the trick.
I was using the old addition of Luminar and it ruined my photos app and completely discombobulated my video card. I got the latest addition of Luminar 2017 and all the problems disappeared.
