[quote=Wingpilot]One bit of advice regarding the plane tour of Denali...
I was pretty lucky I surmise. The pilots daughter lived in the county I live in and those are pretty long odds that got us off on a good note... he flew with everything on the right hand side all the way so I got a steady gap between the prop and wing. It was a twin engine and I have an artsy shot when I caught some propeller disk in one photo and the sun off the top of Denali. The wing is an issue if you are past and try to get one more frame.
Wasilla AK !! Gods country.

One bit of advice regarding the plane tour of Dena... (
show quote)
Great shot of the peak of Denali.
Did you know that Mt. Denali is taller than Mt. Everest? Not higher, which is measured from sea level to the top, but taller, which is measured from the base of the mountain to the top.
Great shot of the summit.

Which leads to the fact that it is subject to some horrendous winds, up to 300 mph. Big sore thumb sticking up near the jet stream.

Yes, Everest is merely a very tall peak rising up from a high ridge of mountains, but Denali/Mt. McKinley rises from nearly sea level, and is such a large mass that is creates its own weather, which is why you can’t see it, even on a sunny day at times, approximately 60-70% of the time.
I haven’t read all of the other responses above so forgive me if this has already been covered. One thing that you might wish to consider is renting whatever lenses that your heart desires for a couple of weeks and fedex them to wherever you are staying. When you are done, pack them up & send them back. Hotel, motel, b&b etc. obviously if you are staying outside in a pup tent this plan won’t work.
Just my 2 cents worth.
