The D300 is a fine camera. Unless you need higher ISO ability, you may just find that it will last you quite a while. I skipped the D300 and if I didn’t need the higher ISO the D500 offers, I would still be happily shooting my D200. Feature-wise, the D300 is a step up from the D200.

The lens suggestions are great for future acquisition. For now I will use my 28-105 because I have learned from this thread that the d300 is a cropper. This fact means that the 28mm low end of my 28-105 isn't as low as I need it to be, thanks to the 1.5 factor explained to me by GoofieNewfie.

Ergo, what I really need now is the widest wide angle lens that I can presently afford.

==> Please let me know of an okay wide angle lens that costs ~$175 or less. (I have a sinking feeling that such a lens does not exist at this price point. If so, then I will just have to wait a while & save up. 😢)

Thanks muchly for the offer. I am tempted but my main goal right now is the wide angle lens. Also, when I move up I will likely go for the D700 or a mirrorless.

You may want to consider rather than a wide DX lens (for crop sensor) an ultra wide FX lens. Then when you eventually go to full frame you will have a good lens. Downside is the ultra wide Fx lens will be larger and heavier, and likely too expensive. However I have found my most costly purchases were the ones I grew out of quickly. Thus my interest in selling the 300s.

I bought a 10-20 mm F4-5.6 DX Sigma for my wide angle DX needs

I have 2 d300 and use and abuse them all the time. Great camera especially for the price at that click count. You will be able to get more than a few months out of it.
