Absolutely Not!

Aside from both being CRAP-period. In 25 years of computer consulting I thank both Norton and McAfee for many dollars paid to me to correct their single use problems, antivirus programs run together cause conflicts.

Horrible programs both.

In fact, if you are running Windows 10, Windows Defender is already included and the best defense against viruses. Then for other Malware like spyware, and others, the best defense is the paid, realiime version of Malwarebytes from the Malwarebytes web site.

To clean up cache files, and other garbage, use CCleaner from Piriform software site.

All other download sites are conflicted and load more garbage than they clean. Spyware comes from the routine software download sites. McAfee particularly is rampant with frequent bad updates.

So, my referrals on this are the Microsoft Essentials.... MSSE for Windows 7 and older and Windows Defendor provided with 10, and Malwayebytes and CCleaner. No conflicts among those three.

25 years teaching Windows and Windows Maintenace at Central Oregon Community College (now retired) and 28 years running my own consulting service for windows pc's. (still active)

Kuzano,

Thank you so much for this post (I bumped into it, while searching for your recent photo of the X-E1 w/Hexanon 40mm).

I spend quite a bit of time in the heart of "Gatesland", so, many of my friends are Microsoft people; yet, I've asked these questions (especially about Malwarebytes) of them and don't get much of a response. Your short essay, here , is golden for this old computer dunderhead.

I'd considered the "free" Malwarebytes, but I think you've led me to make the purchase.

Clarifying question: Are you ok with the free CCleaner (which I've been using for years), or do you specify the one we must purchase?

It was changed since your first post to Chit-Chat by Admin. Someone probably whined about it. Nothing better to do...
