Adobe Photoshop Express is free and will do most simple editing tasks; adjusting light, color, white balance, cropping, straightening, sharpening, etc., and it's easy to use.

I'm an Adobe addict and, until you posted, didn't know there was a Adobe Photoshop Express version for a PC. There is. It's free. I downloaded/installed it and am impressed with the variety and quality of the tools!

Thanks!

Paint Shop Pro is quite reasonable when it's on sale, which is frequently, no need to update every year, does almost everything, in fact I've never come across anything it couldn't do, I have had to learn how to do things and sometimes my old brain takes a bit of practice but it gets everything I need done.

Hi again Bob:
I see you use Paint Shop Pro. I believe that is a Corel product. I have been a Corel Word Perfect user since the 80's. I prefer it over MS Word. With my last upgrade of Word Perfect X8, I received AfterShot 2. I have played with it a little. Jerryc tells me AfterShot is very similar to Light Room, being able to organize photos and open Raw files. Is Paint Shop Pro on the order of Photo Shop?

Also, I did some PP on my old Vista powered Dell laptop, but tilting the screen changed the colors. I replaced it with a HP Envy laptop / notebook / tablet. Colors are better, but not true. Works well on stand alone but craps out online. A friend had Photo Shop on a Mac till the PS stopped working. I thought about going Mac Book Pro or desktop until I posted that it seemed most Hoggs we're using Apple. I found out differently. Many said they left the strongly controlled Apple for the freedom of Windows. So, now I find myself back on the fence. May I ask, what hard ware do you use, and what forms of backups do you rely on?
Thank you, in advance.

I like PSP from Corel, I've been using it from at least X4, does everthing I need, I usually upgrade every 2 years, for about $30.00 with some extras thrown in from Corel, I watch for deals, I have and have used Aftershot, not wild over it, for Heavy duty Raw conversion I go back to DPP from Canon, PSP 2018 pulls up a rather good and quick Raw converter in the program that I find mare than adequate, My fast brush with Adobe products was years ago when I found them completely confusing (both Elements and the full program) , tried one or two others , found PSP and never looked back. On my HP 17" laptop I always made sure the screen was perfectly vertical, not a problem anymore as the hinges no longer move, the replacement is a 24" all in one, no problem at all on the colors. Back up is simple, multiple external HD's, Hope I've been of some help, any other questions just ask, Bob.

Glad you like it. I have several editors, including Gimp which is the free editor closest to Photoshop CC in capability, but for quick JPEG edits for posting or emailing Photoshop Express is my go to editor.

Tilting your screen causes the colors to change is not new. You should position your screen to look straight in the screen. That should give you the best true colors. I, too, use Paintshop Pro. Have for years. I find that I can do most everything I want to. PSP accepts most of the Adobe plug-ins including Topaz, Redfield, NIK, AKVIS, and more. There are many tutorials online with more new ones every week. I would highly recommend PSP to anyone.

I originally was using PSP before it was bought out by Corel. When I began adding GPS data to my photos I discovered that PSP was removing that information and there was no option to turn off that function, so I moved to Lightroom. There were features in PSP that I found very nice and easy to use that are not exactly duplicated in Lightroom. If you are not concerned with losing GPS data when processing photos, then you might like PSP.

I use Google Photos now, it has a basic but quite good photo editor, when you expand the brightness and colour options there are lots of sliders to edit photographs, the final "Pop" option is a very useful one, but use with care.

Affinity Photo would be a good program for you. A lot of versatility.

Affinity is OK but that is as far as I would go, the results are satisfactory but images are very slow to load and save. You need lots of RAM to use Affinity as it is a very heavy Ram hogger.

Start simple - Photo program on Macs, Elements, Affinity. You can always upgrade if you need more editing power and options.

As a rank amateur I am more than perplexed about processing software for photos. I only shoot jpg and have used Picasa for years. Color blindness and Raw dont mix well!
Given Picasa’s demise . . I’m lost. Where might I go next? I surely do not wish to pay $120/year to rent LR. My editing interests are simple. Would appreciate your suggestions.
I use an Fuji XE2S.
Thank you.

I still use Picasa 3. If you google Picasa 3 you will get a bunch of sites where you can download the software. Still works the way it always did. Satisfies my editing needs.

You could try something online e.g. Ribbet.com which has a free version which can do quite a lot. I often use it when I am in a hurry or when away and don't have PS on the computer I have with me. Cheers

I don't have all my links on this computer, but Google will show you lots of free processing programs - probably all most of us need.
