Looks like there is a new Pentax K-1 (2) coming out soon. I can hardly wait. My Canon and Nikon gear has been taking second place to the K-1 I bought a couple years ago.

That's nice. What does the Pentax do that the Canon or Nikon doesn't?

The K-1 does a lot of stuff that Canon and Nikon do not. Look up the specs at any reputable photo dealer. I am not a salesman. Checking out the pixel shift and the star tracker will get you started.

Takes K-mount lenses.

Doesn't cost a small fortune

No firm details of what the new K1 will have, everyone hopes for better AF, theres a suggestion of higher resolution to compete with the D850 and apparently a ck pentax facebook post said the K1 was being discontinued but the post no longer exists.

A new FF body would be nice which hopefully might put help reduce the price of the current K1 That would suit me :) seems it's a good time to be squirrelling money away in time for the release of the new camera hopefully later this year.

I'm still waiting for a good mirrorless Pentax.

May be a long wait - their identity is embodied in their {superior} pentaprism .... unlike Canikon, this is used even in bottom-of-the-line models.

I am happy with the K-1 right now but that would make a great Christmas gift next year

I have a Q-7, closely related to the Q-10 you list in your signature. I've been kind of hoping that Metabones knows something, that their new adapters

mean that Pentax will continue the "Q" line, but honestly I don't have much real hope of that. My dream QP would have the sensor used in a current cell phone, an EVF, and the processors used in the KP introduced last summer, which are said to a good job of making higher ISO settings useable.

I had a look at your thread and I don't think metabones needed to do much design to produce a speed booster for the Q. It's working like a reverse tele converter, except instead of spreading the light over a wider area it concentrates it instead.
The housing has to have the right mounts either side and the length needs to be the difference between the q lens mount and the lens registration distance to maintain infinity focus. It's not that far removed from the adaptall II in principle the main work was in making the lens and then making a lens mount to adapt to different bodies.

This kind of gives me an idea, adaptall made teleconverters for adaptall lenses couldn't you make a metabones adapter for adaptall lenses? or maybe even just regular lenses, all the aps-c bodies that are using full frame glass could use them?
thats a product that would be interesting :)

"That's nice. What does the Pentax do that the Canon or Nikon doesn't?" I have never used Pentax cameras but I know they are excellent in quality. I have always used Nikon cameras and lenses. I used a Canon body once and I never had seconds thoughts about continuing to use my Nikon bodies. Then comes Olympus and its mirrorless cameras and now I find that I use more my Olympus cameras than my Nikons.
In the first place, since we have been talking about what Canon and Nikon cannot do that Pentax can and I am talking in this case about Olympus, NOBODY makes a better sensor cleaning machine than Olympus. I have NEVER had the need of cleaning the sensor in my Olympus bodies.
Olympus uses better and more practical technologies than Nikon, I do not know about Canon. I am not going to extend my discussion here but with my Olympus bodies I have a pretty good idea of what my exposure will be before I take the exposure. I cannot say the same of my Nikon bodies. If my Olympus cameras had better AF for action and wildlife I could not be using my Nikons and I have used Nikon bodies and lenses since 1963.
I cannot speak on behalf of other cameras but the Olympus bodies and lenses I have rival my D7000 and D610 except for AF technologies.

Apparently building an adapter is tougher than it appears from this distance - Metabones claims they made the Nikon version first because they had done Nikon already; trouble is that I don't have any Nikon lenses - I do have a Takumar 50mm f/1.4 if they ever get around to doing M42-mount and a Pentax-A 50mm f/1.7 if they ever get around to doing K-mount.

The APS-C to FF idea is intriguing. They have glass in the adapter anyway, so they could put more in to compensate for the thickness. I guess they make a negative TC, even, to gain even more "speed".

Added Note: as I've commented several times in threads about cleaning sensors, my Pentaxes have auto-sensor-clean turned on, and I've never had to manually clean their sensors

Late yesterday, Ricoh (the parent company of Pentax) issued a statement saying the K-1 is still being manufactured and sold, and that the rumors about an upgraded model were just that-rumors.
