Nothing at all wrong with Nikon cameras, but their repair policies can be restrictive if not purchased through Nikon USA authorized dealers from what I read here. It does however explain the context of the original questions I believe, which initially confused me.

Interesting. This is the second time you have asked this question. Why do you wish to know and what specific information are you looking for?

So my Zenit E came from Russia. Do you want to know what factory it was manufactured in? Do you want to know where I bought it or how I acquired it? Do you want to know where it has resided during its life? Where it is now, or where the photographs were captured?

Sometimes a detailed analysis of the serial numbers can provide the manufacturing factory information and other interesting stuff, but I continue to be bemused about your reason for asking the question about the camera.

I would like to know where the camera was made. This information often very difficult to find by online researching. You have said that if you listed that you live in San Francisco people have preconceived opinion about you. I don't do that with people but I do that with cameras and things that you can buy. I always want to know where things were made.

Well, that information can often be researched. Out of the four vehicles that I own / have owned in the USA I know exactly which factories they were built in from the vehicle ID codes. That information is available online, although it may take a bit of research to track it down. That can also be true for cameras and lenses, at least in some cases. If it is important to you, you could start with serial numbers and see where the bread crumbs lead you.

Can you explain why it is important to you, beyond that you just wish to know? My wife deals in antique jewelry, and knowing where something was made, and by whom is frequently important as it can have a significant impact upon the value. Identifying hallmarks, maker's marks, and also understanding the context of jewelry manufacture through the ages and around the world is a non trivial exercise, but as a dealer she needs to understand those things. What is your reason for wishing to know?

I have approximately 7.654 qydrozerks, but the pod is in orbit. Can your vehicle get us to 152km in altitude. I do not have to intercept it, just give the pod the signal to return to my base. The price will we the equivalent of US&10,000,000 in Mendurian diamonds per quadrozerk. How much of an advance sale will you require for lift off, intercept and reentry (I have a small reserve buried in Nevada), and will your vessel carry two of us? Mind you, I have the ability to telepathically deconstruct your vessel should you attempt anything dishonorable. Pvdzank!

I made the mistake of buying a FED camera and lens in 1952. The HUAC has revoked my travel permit. I must stay in Califirnia or Nevada. I am blacklisted in other states.

It could be worse. You could be outright blackballed! And your lens caps torn off and smashed to the ground by a khaki clad and kepied soldier-officer wannabe!

[quote=big sky montana]Whats the deal !!!! Why are the locations of so many member locations in hiding ... are you running from the law or just ashamed of where you live. It would be fun to know just how diverse the group is[/quote

I will speak for myself. Where I live has nothing to do with photography and is nobody's business.

If you must know I wouldn't buy cameras made from certain places. Now they all can flame me but I have my right to put my money where I want it right? A few years ago I was checking out the Fuji X series and the Panasonic and found that most if not all of them made in Japan. I think that has changed and I can't seem to find the information online.

Thank you for explaining, and there is nothing wrong with your motivations from my personal perspective. This information can frequently be found, but it can take time and effort to follow the bread crumbs.

Good luck in your quest.

Actually the whole camera, including lens strap, was stripped from me by Tail-gunner Joe in a ceremony held in his backyard bomb shelter somewhere in Wisconsin (no city would take credit for the location) shortly after being blacklisted. A party with free liquor and heroin followed, butnI was not allowed to attend.

A gentlemen earlier in this forum challenged my comment using the world "political." Maybe that was the word.
My take is when we start talking about the style or quality or whether the question is about things other then the subject of this forum
the work and culture of image making. When you ask someone to give their location what does it matter.
Have you noticed that all the software giants are asking for our location to put it into their analytics.
Our personal information is now everywhere in data banks. A lot to this should never been given out or sold.
Right now Comcast (Infinity) is getting all my habits, likes, purchases, entertianment and personal info.
They are selling this information. Does anyone find that terrible. Our government has approved and
even encouraged it working with lobbyists.

Unless you are wanting to hunt someone down like a dog, why worry about it? I have listed where I'm from since the beginning, but have no issue with people who don't want, or care to share that info.
