I'm with you on that. It would be nice to know where people are from so things can be put in context. If they're from one's own town or nearby, it's nice to know.

Maybe some deem it safer not to say where they are from.

I really want to know where the cameras come from but whenever I asked such a question in a forum I always got flamed. I hope the people are different in this forum.

I also think it's funny the way people block their license plates when they post pictures of their cars. Do they block the plates when they drive their cars around town?

Some time ago I saw a vanity plate reading "SPCLFTMT".

There is good reason to block the plate(s), information can be garnered from DVM provides specific owner's name and address. When the photographs are shotgunned on any kind of media, it can put the owner at risk in many ways. The risks are comparetivily minimal when driving and parking around town.

The OP stopped responding. Did he have his location listed in his profile?

It claims Billings MT, but who know?

Could be anywhere. Shangri-La, perchance?

My cameras come from Japan, what does that tell you? Why does it matter?

I agree. Just put the general area, nobody is saying to put you address phone or bank ID #. Would be interesting to know part of the world everyone is from.

I just want to know. It's the information that is difficult to find on the internet. I know a lot about your camera but don't know where it came from. Thank you.

I choose to remain anonymous. I have a wife, kid, and two dogs. There are too many crazies out there to endanger them.

This reminds me of a quote I just saw attributed to Joseph Heller of Catch 22 fame: "Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't after you."

While there are certain danger to post too much information about yourself on the internet I wouldn't mind telling someone where I live if asked. I don't like putting information in the profile.

Every time I leave the house, I know the exact location of every single person I see. I wonder if I could sell that info to someone. : )

There are times when I'm unaware of my location.

This discussion comes up about twice a year. For whatever reason, some people don't want others to know what State or City they live in. When a photo is posted, it's nice to know where it was taken.

If you want to know please ask. I don't feel comfortable supplying information not asked for.

Fearful.
Think not showing it somehow protects them when just being on line they advertise to all who really wished to do harm their exact location.
I have some freak out that I have given my address.
Well my house is internationally know all over, easily googled and the address so I don't care as I have nothing to fear. In the big scheme of things I am no threat to any one or nation and would be a waste of time to make any serious effort to attack.
PS I would shoot back anyway.
