70 - 200 tamaron vs 50 - 100 Sigma Art advice

I’m using a t6i Canon. I have the 18 - 35 Sigma Art and love it. I wonder if spending $200 more on the full frame 70 - 200 Tamaron lense now would be smarter then getting the Sigma 50 - 100 , if I decided to go to a full frame in 2 or 3 years. Any thoughts?

A LOT depends on what you think you might be shooting - in the NEAR future ......personally, I would go for Sigma now and let the future fall where it may .

Gotta chose your next lens based on what you want to shoot now, not in 2 or three years. Everything can change in that time.

I like the Tamron 70-200. Simply because I don't like a camera in my face, I do my best to use a zoom when ever shooting people.

The Tamron is a great lens (you already know that) and a very popular size. In my opinion, having that size will open up a large area of photography you don't attempt now. The Sigma 50-100 may be nice, and everything, but is more limited than the 70-200.

The T6i is a nice camera; my wife has one. If you are going to go up though, you don't need a FF. An 80D or 7D are both cropped sensors but very nice cameras. There is precious little that someone with a FF can do with their camera that I can't do with my 80D. My advice would be to stick with the T6i and only worry about moving up when you can justify the move. Be careful about gettingGAS (Gadget Acquisition Syndrome).

I just recently got a used Sigma 50-100 f1.8 from Amazon for $770 and it's everything you've probably read about it - big&heavy, which doesn't bother me, crazy sharp! and about 50/50 when it comes to focusing. Love the background blur and low light capabilities with f1.8. It took some fine tuning using sigma usb dock, some testing, more tuning and it's fine now. It's probably pretty close to what you experience with your 18-35 Art. I like it, but I would like even more if Sigma gave us some firmware update. So far I didn't get to use it much so I got nothing to show besides some test shots.
I was trying to find an answer to your question here about 2 months ago with no luck. I guess it depends on what you want to do with it. 70-200 is 112-320 on a Canon crop body. Is that what you need? I'm pretty sure I will not go FF so fast, so I'm fine at least for a while...

I believe there are least three versions of the Tamron 70-200. I have the oldest (at least the oldest of the most recent three versions), use it on FF for landscapes, and it has greatly exceeded my expectations, especially for sharpness. If the last version, I think it's designated G but don't recall for certain, is better than mine it is a great lens and well worth purchasing, IMHO.

I've never met a Sigma ART lens I didn't like. The three that I own are fabulous. 50/1.4 ART, 135/1.8 ARt and the 24-105/4 ART. Best of luck.

Some people were complaining about poorly placed controls on the Tamron 70-200 f2.8 G2. Some say it's too easy to move or switch something while holding and operating your camera normally, but that might be very individual...

The Tamron 70-200 F/2.8 lens is a great lens. Use it for indoor sports and get great results. Don't have the G2 series but have the series just before that. The Sigma Art lenses are all fantastic lenses, I own one and walk with it most of the time...Great investment...
