I'm taking a vacation in Sydney and wondered what must see/photo things I have to do?

Thanks,

Al

Go the extra & see Western Australia. Bring plenty of money. But it's worth it.

You didn't say how long you will be in Sydney but as a frequent tourist of Sydney there is plenty to see.

Obviously, there is the harbor area with the Sydney bridge and the Opera house. There is a botanical park at the foot of the Opera House that will offer some great pics of the harbor and surrounding area.

You can take a day trip, on one of the numerous bus lines, to the Blue Mountains and see quite a bit of the surrounding area. Across the harbor will be the beach area with Manly and Bondi Beach easily accessible. Lunar Park, again just across the harbor is a fun place to go. Why not take a harbor tour?

Depending on where you are staying downtown Sydney is a fun town to either walk or take the free shuttle bus that services the downtown area.

If you have a window seat on the return trip, you can get some great shots out of the window of Sydney and the harbor.

We are going back in October....have fun :-)

Thanks guys, I'll only be in the Sydney area for 2 weeks and just wanted to make sure no hidden gems possibly off the beaten path were missed since who knows if I'll go again.

Is it customary to tip in Australia? I know that in New Zealand it isn't customary to tip. I know because I took a second job as a taxi driver and never got tips from New Zealanders.

Tipping isn't expected, as in the States, but not uncommon.
As for photo opportunities in Sydney, as you're in the Eastern Suburbs, there is a long, easy walk around the waterfront, say, Bondi to Bronte, or anywhere on the walk. Some terific shots.
Another recommended excursion is to catch a ferry from Circular Quay to Watson's Bay - 20min? - snapping as you go, then stroll around Watsons Bay for more pix, fish and chips at the pub then back to the Quay for more shots of the Bridge, Opera House, follow the waterfront footpath west, right around under the bridge, then back to the Quay.
I love snapping the Harbour from Blue's Point, in the later afternoon when the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House are both in frame and catching that mellow afternoon light. Blue's Point isn't far from the city but over the Bridge, first exit left to Lavender Bay. You'd need a car. Or you can catch a train to Milson's Point station, a few minutes from the CBD on the north side. From there, stroll down to Luna Park - anyone will direct you - and there's a footpath around the waterfront to Lavender Bay. Easy walking and lots of Harbour and city shots. Again, avoid harsh mid-day lighting if possible (all very well if you can!)
And as already recommended, find your way to the Art Gallery, walk through the Botannical Gardens and around to the Opera House, street theatre at Circular Quay then bus, or walk, up to Town Hall Station for a train back to the Eastern Suburbs. You can't help but take good pix on that walk either.

As usual when visiting for a short time a good idea is to take day tours.
One of the most famous is the Blue Mountains. Also some do a day tour to Bathurst and Mount Panorama which is the site of the famous car race in October. It is possible to take a tour to Canberra but it may be an overnight one.
Good luck with your visit. Next time come to Melbourne
