<snip>I think the asking price is due to the setting, and the fact that the surrounding land (NPS) will remain undeveloped. Quite a view.

Given recent events at the Federal level, I would not count on it remaining undeveloped.

You say that as though injecting sanity was a good thing.

The first reference you made might have happened, but the follow up to correct the mistake was a bit more costly.

Five Million....

WoW!!!

I recall that a "Long Rock" of an island was bought for a handful of beads and some rum.

Monetarily speaking....

The Largest "Land Deal" was bought for about Three Cents an Acre, from France in 1802 and 1803, and "they" really did not even OWN it... The "Louisiana Purchase".

But wait, neither Utah nor LDS want any government involvement in land management. Maybe the Bundy Charitable Foundation could step in, save the day, and protect it forever!

Ps this is not in Utah.
Nor does the church have any reason to care as there is no direct historical relationship with the church.

Ooops, my bad, although the LDS mentality is the same in any of the western states, Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming, and so on...., no government involvement if it can be avoided.

It's simply a cultural thing...

And what do you know of the LDS culture and mentality out side of fake news sources?

Geez, I see the potential for an exclusive golf club and course sitting here. Membership dues would easily replace the 5 mil paid for the property and the development of the course. Since the location is already famous, it wouldn't take long to establish a major tournament at the course. By contrast, there was an entire town, Gisela, a bit north and east of Phoenix, Az that was for sale for the same amount. This was a few years ago. It's in a rather secluded location off the road between The Valley and Payson.

My plan for that one, if I had the money at the time, was to purchase the town, declare it an independent and sovereign Principality and declare war on the U.S. Surrender would almost immediately follow and then set up a lucrative foreign aid program to provide income for myself, along with my loyal subjects.

I really like Gisela and the Tonto creek. My great great great grandmother was killed there and her youngest child in her arms.
I visit the grave every time I pass that way.

I clearly missed something. What did the White House have to say about LDS culture?

I have enough for the down payment if they would take gold, but I am holding out for oceanfront properties.

The iconic Mormon Barn, and quite possibly the most photographed building in America, is for sale. It sits on 1 acre of land being offered for development at $5 million, according to OUTSIDEONLINE.COM. We need to save this building - along with other sructures just up the road. How many of us have photographed Mormon Barn?

I have photographed it. That and almost everything around the Tetons is a photographer's paradise. It's all so majestic any time of year.
