My humble experience is that many camera stores tell us that their used products are checked and tested to specs but in your case it does not seem to be true.

Sorry to hear your problems. I've bought three lenses from KEH. The first a Nikon 105mm f2.5 was better than rated - I say it was mint. The second an old Konica was mint again it was not the Hexanon I expected but a Hexar. However as it was about $20 I was happy and I am still using it. Finally another Konica for $20 in very good condition and working perfectly. Service has always been as promised and condition better than described. I hope your problems will get sorted out.

You could have stopped reading the original post at any time. Yet you continued to read and then added absolutely nothing to the conversation except for YOUR whining. Was that really necessary for us or just so you could vent? I got something out of the original post but nothing from yours. Maybe you need to get out of your short pants and try some big boy pants for a change of pace.

I got sent the newer 2 ring AF 80-200 F2.8 Nikkor when I ordered the older push pull version. I didn't complain. They made a listing error and made good on it.

It's actually informative when someone posts issues they have with sellers. I would much rather read that then read the brown truck posts.

And I think you meant "Woe is me". But then, bad spelling and sniveling go well together.

In December, I purchased a 5D Mark II rated as excellent from KEH. Received it in an appropriate time frame.

Upon setting it up and test shooting it, the main dial started to slip and not engage in either direction. This went on for ten minutes and then worked as normally expected. I used it as a second set up camera during an event without problem and the following week sent it to CPS for maintenance. I noted the problem with the dial at the time. They contacted me back and said the main dial assembly was bad and needed to be replaced. I declined repair after talking to KEH about the problem with KEH stating that they would set aside another rated excellent camera and replace it under their warranty. CPS returned the body and I repacked it using the return label that KEH provided me.

KEH received it back on the 9th of January. On the 11th, having not heard from KEH, I emailed customer service regarding the status. Response was they were working as fast as possible, but it would be at least 5 working days before it would be processed as received. So I waited. On the 16th, I got an email saying the package was received and being processed. On the 23rd, I got an email saying the package was being shipped that evening. Delivery was this Saturday as FEDEX scheduled it would.

So I open the package and start the set up process again, look in the viewfinder and immediately, something is wrong. Take the lens off, unhook the trap door above the mirror and lo and behold... NO focusing screen!

Now, I have to wait until Monday to talk to someone about this at KEH. I don't want to have to go through another almost 3 week turn around again because someone there rated this camera excellent and didn't even look through the viewfinder! It is obviously a problem when what you see is a circle of light with black corners and you can see light reflecting off the shutter assembly.

I just sent an email to KEH stating my intention to have CPS put in a new focus screen and do a maintenance service on it. That I expect them to pay for the part and will return it under warranty if CPS finds anything else wrong with the camera requiring more repairs.

I am not saying to avoid KEH, I have bought lenses and another body from them before and had only a minor glitch for the most part... I remember I had a previous order show up on my credit card, but when I asked about where it was after not hearing about it for a week, I was told the order had been cancelled because I didn't finish the order. I asked how did my card show a charge if my order wasn't finished? Was told I apparently hadn't clicked the correct button to complete the sale. So I went back to my CC on line and the charge was gone. The things I ordered had a special 1 day discount on them which they didn't offer to reinstate, so I passed on them ,chalking it up to my user error.

I will possibly buy from them again if they have something I really need, after I get over the frustration I am experiencing from this latest episode.

Anyone can screw up. There’s a corollary of Murphy’s law that, “When we screw up something, we screw up the fix and the fix of the fix...”

KEH has a great reputation. I feel confident they’ll make it right, and make it up to you.

You are very patient. I would return the camera and demand my money back in writing.

I sent a camera for them to buy about 4 weeks ago. So far no money and they still have my camera. I could have sold it by now but I thought it would be easier and faster selling to them. I will never sell to them again.

I think the delay in KEH processing your return is due to a heavy work load at Christmas. I had some lenses and other items for quotation that I sent from here in Santa Rosa, CA on 10th December and yet by 7th January it was not yet attended to. In frustration I asked KEH to return the package and it was returned promptly and on fast Fedex delivery. Another item, an N6006 camera, broke after 2 months and after I sent a photo of the broken part my purchase price was refunded - not the delivery cost alas. But I was happy enough with the KEH response.

I have bought quite a lot of equipment from KEH over the past 6 months. Sometimes I was a difficult customer (I’m sure); returning items because I had selected the wrong one etc. I never had any complaints back from them. Apart from the N6006 all cameras, lenses etc that I received were in top condition. I have no problem going back to KEH if I want something else.

The problem with the N6006 was the door latch that snapped; a common fault that relates to the original design - such a pity because it enabled me to get some really excellent photos. So a word of warning re N6006. I also bought a Nikon
F60 in excellent condition from KEH. I can’t sing my praises of the F60/N60 loud enough. It rarely fails to produce clear, sharp photos. If I do get a bad one it’s due to my lack of care in focussing. Exposure is always right. Such a maligned camera that punches well above its weight.

I am confident that will be the end result as well. In fact, the end result may soon be on the horizon!

I have had great luck with KEH bought quite a few lenses through them and a couple cameras, 2 years ago I fell and cracked one of the lenses I called them to see if they had the same lens in stock that I could buy they did not but they had a Nikon version 28mm-200mm the person I talked with said no charge they would send me it within 5 days fed ex. It shocked me that I did not have to buy it and I still have the Tamron lens that broke just had to send them good photos of the damage. I am sorry you had a bad experience I would give them a chance to make it up to you.

Complaining about people complaining. Good one. First read through I thought you were serious but now I think you were just adding a little levity to the post. Didn't quite work.

Sorry you had problems... From my experience with KEH, they're pretty dependable and would do their best to make right any problems (limited by availability, since they're dealing with used equipment). I have had dozens of transactions with them and only once returned an item that I wasn't happy with... not really a problem (more my mistake than theirs) and they promptly refunded my $ money, no questions asked.

Not sure why you'd send a 5D Mark II to CPS just to install a focusing screen. It's a widely available, $35 item to buy one and very simple to install yourself (And isn't this sort of like having to put new tires or have a brake job done on a used car? With a used car I'd always at least change the oil and install new air & oil filters, maybe do some other preventative maintenance). In fact, I replaced the original Eg-A screen in my 5DII with the Eg-D "grid" when I bought the camera new, because I prefer that type (which Adorama, B&H and others have those in stock as well as other optional screens.. The original 6D also uses the Eg-series screens).

Maybe you just want CPS to go through the camera. I'd check the shutter count first, and if were low might not bother, would just look it over myself, update the firmware if needed, and maybe clean the sensor... the run the camera through it's paces... and only send it off for service if it really appeared to need it for things I don't or can't do myself such as light seal leaks, sluggish shutter, meter calibration.

So here is an observation and an update on this situation.

First, I never thought that KEH would not rectify the problem. Having purchased before and probably in the future, I hold them in high regard. I understand that problems arise regardless of the reputation and quality of any company. I was simply venting my frustration at the absurdity of the events.

Customer service called me to find out if they would need to return the camera to fix it or if I was confident enough to insert the focus screen myself. I have been assured this is the correct focus screen and insert tool for this body and they are shipping it out tomorrow.
