Looking for a used Nikon lens 28mm-105mm
Hello to all. I've been searching for something in the 28-105 lens. I have found a Nikon used at B&H for a 28-105 F/4-5.6 IF Af-d the rating is 8 or better. They are asking around $80-90$. Does anyone have any info of use with this lens. My concern is the age. This is for a d3100. Should I consider or keep looking? Thanks for your time. Randy H. :-)

Lenses don't wear the way cameras do, although they can develop problems. Buying from B&H, Adorama, or KEH is a very good way to go. They rate and price their products fairly, and if you have a problem, they will take care of you. Probably half of my lenses were bought used, and they look and work like new.
That lens won't AF on a D3100...Lenses need to have a built in AF motor to AF on your camera. Now if you don't mind focuing manually it will still have all of the other functions (metering, exif info) & you will save a lot of $$ but you will have to slow down & think about your shot more...
Screamin Scott is right, the old style film lenses will not AF on your body, you are limited to the newer AF-S type lenses if you want to have auto focus. I suggest the AF-S 18-105mm F3.5-5.6 VR II if you are looking in that range, its one of the best DX lenses Nikon makes.
Hello to all. I have a confession to make. It wasn't a Nikon lens at B&H. It was a Tamron, zoom wide angle,AF-28-105mm F/4-5.6,IF D 8+. I'm very sorry for the mix up.I can newbie error cuz' that's what it is.
MT Shooter, Thank you for the Nikon suggestion about that lens. I'll look at that one. Again I'm sorry for the Boo Boo! I have one pic I'd like to share with all.Let's see if it will load!
WoHoo! I've been trying for days to get a pic downloaded. Thanks to all, Randy H. :D
Nikon d3100 I don't have the data
Hello to all, I'm very glad to be able to show my very first portrait picture. I hope that you like it. Thanks very much. Randy H.
RandyH, I had that 28mm-105mm lens for a while and thought it might be a good all around lens for traveling. I mounted it on a Nikon D3S. I headed off to China and took a lot of pictures and although the 28mm is nice, I thought the top end (105mm) didn't offer enough zoom. I put the lens on my wife's D300 and got what I feel is the perfect lens for traveling, which is the Nikon 24-120mm. A little more on the zoom end and it works for me when I travel so I don't have to take a backpack full of lenses. Do yourself a favor and at least look at that lens. I am very satisfied with mine.
Sontog, Thanks, for offering that lens to look into. Randy H.

I was a large fan of the Nikon 24-120mm VR for many years, it was a great walk-around lens. Then the 28-300mm VR II came out and I bought it to try. There was no comparison! I sold my 24-120 to a fellow hogger and have used the 28-300 ever since!
Mt Shooter, Can you give me a ballpark price on the 28-120 compared to the 28-300? Thanks, Randy H. :-)
28-300mm sells new for $969. The 24-120mm VR F3.5-5.6 is available used for around $350 and up. Its replacement, the 24-120mm F4-5.6 VR II currently sells new for $1299.
MT Shooter, Thanks for looking up and offering the price check. I really appreciate all. Thanks, Randy H. :-D
Hello to all, After reading and taking good sound advice to began my search for a good used lens. I have found that lens.
I ended up on Adorama's used site. They had a used 24-120 G ed-if af-s vr lens. It's now on its way to me. I want to say thanks to all for your help! Randy H. :D
