Am interested in this lens as my chief carry around lens. I have the canon 18-135 and 55-250- canon kit lenses, but can eliminate these from my bag if the uhher"s deem it is a worthy lens. I"m not looking for canon L quality or an f2.8 but a decent lens as the above kit lenses work for me as an amateur photographer. I also have the canon 10-18mm and the tamron 150-600mm G2 lens which i love for medium range telephoto. Thanks for your help.

Just a thought for you - for about the same price, you can buy a second body. The 18-400 lives in the ranges you already own, and thus is just weight (although there are some conveniences). A second body gives you the same capabilities with the added assurance of that backup body. But... it is only money....

I'm in this camp. Use a 16-45 on my Pentax and 55-250 on my old 40D. I don't know which 18-135 you have. I've heard that they are all pretty good.

I have this lens and like it a lot. Here are some photos I've taken with it at different mm settings covering the complete range of this lens. A great walk around lens....Rich

I'm really glad you said that about the shake at the far end. I swear it "wobbles" even on the tripod because it is so lightweight and bottom heavy when all the way out. There is no tripod collar available for it, which I think would help, of you could work around the external focus ring. I'm frustrated with the focus I get; I'm working on solutions. I'm also quite the novice. But I'm sticking with the Tamron because of its versatility.

All my photos that are posted here were taken hand held. Remember that you should be shooting at 400 second or faster....Rich

I just recently purchase a Tamron 18-400 for a Nikon D5300. It works very well so far, I have taken less than 100 pictures with the lens.

I'm a happy 18-400 user - took close to 1,500 shots with it in Edinburgh, including several hundred of fireworks and loads of nighttime images and it performed so well that I hardly used the other two lenses I brought along.

The canon 18-135 is an excellent lens.

I have the 18-400 and love it. At 18mm, it acts like it's a 2.8f lens I swear! It does very well in low light. As well as it does, it puts all the others on standby.

The examples here and the reviews should end the discussion.

I have adapted to using the Sigma 18-300 as a walk about lens. The 150-600 sport is just to heavy for me to hand hold. Am thinking about Sigma 50-500. Anyone know the difference in weight between these 2. Cannot find it on b&h site. They used to post lens weights.

Bigwolf and Moondoggie, you got me changing my thinking about the 18-400. I'm sure you technique had a lot to do with your great shots.

Thank you and it is a very good lens. It's just a matter of practice with different shutter speeds and F stops. For me F9 and 400 sec. is a good starting point and then go from there depending on the conditions at the time .....Rich
