Although I signed up with UHH a while ago I have never introduced myself. I've been adding my two cents to many post without first introducing myself, which is kind of rude, and I apologize for that.
My name is Frank, although I use Charlie157 as my username. Charlie is the name of my late Lab, who I considered as my Inter-species buddy. Like many other photographers I first became interested in it while in High School. I became involved in the school newspaper and yearbook. The first camera I got to use was a Speed Graphic, I don't remember the model. I remember learning how to develop 4x5's sitting on the floor of my bedroom, using my mother's glass baking dishes as trays. The second camera I got to play with was a 2 1/4 YashicaMat. Later I got to use my brother's Minolta (I don't remember the model but it was a 35, with a 50 and 135 lens. Later I saved up some money and got me a used Mamiya C220, a 2 1/4. I learned photography through my friends who learned on their own and put together their own darkroom. I remember spending Saturday nights in small cramped darkrooms. I finally put together my own darkroom but didn't spend much time playing with it. After high school I bought a Canon AE-1 and had great fun with that. I later bought another one. Now I had 2 cameras one for color and the other for B&W. I shot mostly Kodachrome and Tri-X films. I enjoyed shooting candid shots mostly of small children. They have great expressions and they also do funny things. I stopped photographing children when there was an increase in children getting abused. I enjoyed shooting landscapes and people in general. In my 30's I got married and my shooting was snapshots of my children. when they were young I purchased a Fuji digital camera, it was a 6mp camera with a zoom lens. It was a great camera. Later I picked up a Pentax 10mp with a 18 to 250 zoom lens. That camera was really fun. I was a little disappointed with it though. it had to do with the smaller size sensor and the angle of view was different. I tried shooting with the 18mm setting and couldn't figure out, at first why I could get a lot of the scene in the photo. The photo came out like I was shooting with a 35mm lens. I finally bought a full frame camera. Nikon D610. I'm just amazed at what the camera can do.
Although I took a photography class through the local community college. I dropped out, it was too boring. Most of my photography knowledge comes from other photographers and lots of reading. I've never joined a photography club. I tend to do things on my own. The only time I displayed my photos were on my Office walls. A solid color wall can become very boring.
Currently, I am learning LR and PS. I took an adult class on LR . which I forgot majority of the information, so I'm try to relearn it reading Kelby and another author whose name I don't remember. None of my images, film or digital have been process with PS or LR.
I'm currently trying to process my digital images. I will also be digitizing my film images. I would like to share my images with the rest of the UHH members and welcome constructive criticism.
