Thank you exceedingly for posting this. These photos are incredible.
Thank you for sharing.
My first wife's step father in law was a Major in the Russian Army. He participated in the Battle of Stalingrad, the Fall of Berlin, and later was transfered to the invasion of Manchuria. He managed to flee to the West in 1952. Several times we would sit down in order to do an oral history. Our sessions never lasted more than a few questions before he ended up sobbing with the memories.
My father was a pilot. He rarely spoke about his own experiences but often relished about things they encountered in camp.
Interesting photos, Mark.
Thanks for posting these fascinating photos. History is so much more interesting when you can see actual pictures of the events...really incredible!
My pleasure. Glad you enjoyed them.

Thanks Mark.
A mate I drank with's plane was shot down and he was taken Prisoner Of War. He was held at Belsen, shown being burned in picture 24.
No matter how drunk he got, he would never talk about it. The only reference he ever made was when I was taking a First Aid course and he said "Alan, just remember, if things get bad; whatever you see - I've seen worse".
War is tragic!! WWI caused the death of 20,000,000 people. WWII caused the deaths of approximately 60,000,000 people and the total destruction of multitudes of towns, villages, cities, ... Other than ridding the world of the Nazi & Japanese militaristic regimes, what else was accomplished in the world wars? Have we learned anything?
