I am so excited that today I learned how get the focus off of the shutter button! Now the camera fires right when I press the button!
I know I'm the only one who really cares but I'm excited by it.
The only problem I have with it is that now I don't have an ae-L button..... But I shoot manual so that doesn't really matter.
Welcome to the BBF fan boy club!!
Once I went BBF...I will never go back....its life-altering ...lol
...my 5DMkIV also allows for 2 BBs to be programmed. I now have an AIServo BB and a One-Shot BB .... go from lock on portrait to sports mode with a 1 cm move of the thumb...
Not sure what you shoot, but most Nikons will let you assign AE-L to another button or a half-press of the shutter release.

...one other thing...the reason you are experiencing the shutter firing right away is due to the camera having pre-focus through BBF.
You can still expereince the shutter not firing if you have focus-priority set high....if the BBF has not caused a focus to occur.
If I set the focus priority high, turn on servo mode and chase a BIF....I may experience it of dont gain focus..
I love BBF. Once set, never going back.

Very useful tool, especially for moving subjects. I have Steve Perry to thank for convincing me to use it.

Good for you. As for me, I use the button that all manufactures spend thousands on, the original one on top of the camera. I have never missed a shot yet. I use the rear button most folks use as back button focus and I assign that to single point focus for birds in the bush or tree, I simple press that rear button and my single spot appears in the viewfinder, I place that one little spot on the bird and fire away. Works for me.

I agree it's not for everyone. If you "have never missed a shot" I would certainly wish to mimic your technique. However, I must candidly state that even when I used the shutter button to focus and release the shutter, I missed bunches of shots. I wish I had your talent.
I love BB focus for daughters cheerleading pics but i am just amateur, mom with a nice camera just learning everything from internet and i have lots of (dumb?) questions. Can i leave BB focus on if i want to callibrate a lens? Can i leave BB focus on if i want to try to shoot video? Nikon D5
I use it all the time, there is an exception when I give the camera to someone else to shoot, they just don't understand and I am not going to spend the time and miss the shot trying to educate a person.
The average person understands push the button half way for 2 seconds and shoot.
I have a D750 and have the AE-L button assigned.
I do have a question, crazydaddio says "If I set the focus priority high", it may be too early in the morning to remember, what is that referencing ?
Thanks, Greg

Hey BMike, you can now assign AE-L to the half press of your shutter release replacing the focus function now that you have BBF setup. That way you can half press to lock your exposure in a scene and recompose if required. Another option for you is to set one of your other function buttons to accomplish the same thing. For example the preview button if you don't tend to use the DOF preview. Good luck and happy shooting.

Personally tried BBF a couple of times, found it a PIA, never went back.

Welcome to the hog, piece of advise, don't hijack another user's thread with your own questions. Start a new topic of your own, otherwise it's just bad form. Again, welcome to the HOG, good luck in your journey and happy shooting.

I'm sorry. What is "PIA".
