My best lens is one I don't use; should I sell?

I've never found a better travel lens than the 24-105 f4L, Mk2 now, but I still have the original kept as a backup. I could understand if you prefer the 24-70 f2.8L if you work indoors a lot, but dollar for dollar and pound for pound these are as good as it gets.
Of course there are many other high quality lenses and special purpose lenses, but as an every day "go to" lens, I'll stick with this.

Based on what you take pictures of I'd ensure it's truly not what you need based on the lenses you have and use. When I want to travel light I minimize the lenses I pack and for my purposes that would be a an all around practical lens. Is it the 2.8 or 4? Before I sold it I'd ask myself why I don't use it.

Hi Hogs-I'm a rookie (seriously studying/practicing about 2 years) and my first lens reco'd by a pro relative is a Canon EF 24-105 USM. It's virtually brand new because I almost never use it. I've acquired some zooms, a nice prime and wide based on my needs. Should I sell it or am I missing something I should be using it for? I mostly shoot nature and travel; occasionally family/dogs. Thanks!

How would we know what to answer, since we do not know what other lenses you do have and use (and why)?

The 24-105 is quite a versatile lens for shooting indoors or even outside landscapes, it gives you a good bit of sub tele coverage.
Problem with selling it is, Canon made a boat load of then and there's now a version II so the original 24-105 USM lens, which is a L series lens with IS, is nowhere near worth what you may have paid for it new.
Keep it and learn how to use it.

I can understand your conundrum. I have a 24-70mm which I use all the time, but it's on my full frame camera. Unfortunately, you lose out on the wider end of the focal length since it's on a dx camera. No, it's not great for birding or wildlife, but I didn't take it off my D800 on a vacation trip to Santa Fe and Taos, and I had my 70-200mm and 28-300 with me as well. Since you're not going to go full frame (and I don't know if this is a full frame lens, anyway) I would suggest selling the lens if you can get something for it. I'd suggest picking up something like an 18-105 if something like that exists. Save up for the 100-400L VRII for distance, birding, and wildlife.
