[quote=CHG_CANON]The Grand Canyon is 277-miles long, up to 18-miles wide and attains a depth of over a mile (1,857 meters). Nearly two billion years of Earth's geological history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted. For thousands of years, the area has been inhabited by Native Americans, who built settlements within the canyon and its many caves. The Pueblo people considered the Grand Canyon a holy site and made pilgrimages to visit. The first European known to have viewed the Grand Canyon was García López de Cárdenas from Spain, who arrived in 1540.

The Bright Angel Trail starts from the South Rim next to Kolb Studio and runs 6-miles one-way to Plateau Point overlooking the Colordo River. The trail is well maintaned and famous for the mule trains ferrying riders on tours of the canyon interior. The trail passes through Indian Gardens and heads out to Plateau Point overlooking the Colorado River from a height of 1,300 feet. Bright Angel is a pleasant downhill or flat adventure for all but the final 3-mile uphill climb back to the South Rim. And that climb, that's a bit of a struggle after being out for 9-miles already ...

Wonderful series of shots of Grand Canyon. The fast majority of people simply stand at the rim, like me, and shoot away. You have captured the shots that most of us would like to have taken of the Grand Canyon.

Thanks Steve! I had the benefit of staying in a dorm-style room on the rim and walking just a few yards to the rim at sunrise. Certainly, most are not interested in 12-mile hike, even if it was a beautifully clear day. Glad you enjoyed.

It truly is a wonderful sight. Great color and awesome depth. I tease the Arizona relatives that if they ever need a landfill it is ready built. They are not amused. Don Z.

Gorgeous photos. The capture of the South Rim feels like I'm standing on the edge. Not easy to capture.

Beautiful pictures. Lighting and composition make them work.

But, in presenting them I would have put the sign first.

Thanks Bill! Actually, you hit on an item where I almost always never show a sign. I do capture some for reference purposes later. But, in deciding to include and override my normal approach, I put it in the final position where it feel in the capture sequence. And, it was a hard decision ...

Thank you DBW! Arizona is full of wonder sites. Somewhat due south from you too, right? Hopefully, you'll make the trip and have a great time.
