Mt. Everest and departure from Paro International Airport, Bhutan

About a year ago my wife and I were touring Bhutan and India. We departed Bhutan en route to Delhi, India. With surrounding peaks as high as 5,500 m (18,000 ft), Paro International airport is considered one of the world's most challenging airports, and only a select number of pilots are certified to take off/land at the airport. We were fortunate to have clear skies and seats on the right side that gave us a spectacular view of Mt. Everest. If interested, here is the link to a video I shot during take off and passing Mt. Everest. Enjoy. https://youtu.be/M0YvHX2J8RU

Wonderful, nice video that brings back fond memories. My wife and I flew by it 10/25/77 on Royal Nepal Airlines. They gave you a very nice color certificate of Everest ("Sagarmatha" locally). The most interesting about that trip was that Tenzing Norgay, a lovely, sweet man, (the Sherpa with Sir Edmund Hillary) was in town, and he signed the peak of the certificate and let us take a picture of him with my wife. I keep that framed in my home office to remind me of simpler, nicer times.

Paul what a great story. How fitting to have Norgay sign your certificate and pose with your wife. Thanks for sharing.

Man you can really tell the air is thin on that take off by the length of the roll and by how long after rotation it is before the captain gets the flaps fully retracted.

Great video, thanks for posting it.
