I am approaching 90,000 click on my D500. How many clicks do I have left? Would it be advisable to replace shutter or buy a new camera. I believe I am good until around 150,000. Looking for suggestions and comments.
Thanks in advance.

Specs say it's good for at least 200,000 . . .

Shutters go, when they go, they go and you get them replaced. The one on my D750 needs to be replaced and I was quoted $225 with a 12 month guarantee. Why replace the camera?

I understand shutter activation numbers are only a guideline. Many UHH members report owning actively working cameras with much higher numbers than the typical ‘rating’. You may be worrying unnecessarily. If you are that concerned, talk to Nikon and send the camera in for evaluation. Or are you really looking for an excuse to replace your current camera?

According to online info it is expected to last for 200,000 clicks. Looking at real shutter life info from older Nikon cameras that could mean a lifetime of anything from 50,000 to 500,000 clicks.

Then there is the warranty, if you can use up your shutter life while the camera has not passed that time frame you should get a new shutter for free

No one can definitively answer your question about shutter life. That’s the truth. Take it or leave it.

So they can confirm it's still working?

You can confirm it is working. They cannot predict actual wear out on one device. It is a statistical phenomena.

Wearout has a time component as well. At the rate you are taking images it is likely you’ll get far more than the 200,000 stated average design number.

I've normally had a backup camera. In that context, I continually think about what my next camera might be, but I don't purchase a replacement unless I have a reason to. Unless you have reason to purchase a D850, I cannot think of a reason to replace a working D500.

I would think they could estimate how many hours or minutes remain for it to continue working. And if they give it a good CLA, the camera’s last gasps might be extended (spoken with tongue firmly in cheek).

Only 90,000 clicks. I'm not sure what you are worried about...

This guy is a shutter count database fanatic: http://www.olegkikin.com/shutterlife/nikon_d500.htm

According to his historical data, you are within the 78 - 80% survival range. Notice the fall off from 100,000 to 150,000 shutter actuations.

If it's working don't fix it.

Subtract 90,000 from the number of actuations it's had when it dies.

Anyone can estimate anything. But such is conjecture at best and a worthless exercise at worst.
