Sorry you lost your opportunity but look on the bright side, you had a couple of days in Central Florida. Pay your dime, take your chance with Space X and NASA launches at Canaveral, although they've been pretty good recently, most delays are usually hours or less...just keep checking the schedule. We always check the United Launch Alliance home page schedule but then again we only live about an hour away.

Sorry you missed it. They finally got it launched last night. I’ve become so blase’ about most launches that I don’t even bother shooting all of them (besides, I’ve got an entire external drive full of shots I HAVE taken. :)
Come back down for the SpaceX Falcon Heavy, though. THAT’S going to be spectacular!

What a bummer. I traveled 250 miles to Cape Canavral today for the night time rocket launch at 7:52pm. This bucket list item was going to be awesome with a night launch. Set up the tripod and Canon and was ready to go. It was cancelled at T -5 to liftoff. What a bummer......

It actually went off at 7:48 the next night. I just watched (from Sebring) but decided not to photograph. It was pretty cool.

I take it you are referring to Thursday night.
I live about 40 miles south of Canaveral, right on the Indian River.
Delays are somewhat common.
Its one reason I do not take the drive to get a better vantage point.

The launch Friday night was awesome from my location.
Very clear skies. I was able to watch the rocket using binoculars to a point where it was 80 miles up and 240 miles down range.

I did not take any photos this time as I have quite a few.

Sweet. I was trying for something similar with the stars but had to cut short as a fire truck came by on a run and the lights....well...you know.

I tried to see one of the last shuttle launches 4 times! One cancelled midnite the night before ( not sure why), one 20 minutes before ( cursed lightning storm), one 2 minutes (rain 10 miles away) and finally we saw the last night launch. I had a cheapo camera, so I would be embarrassed to post. Just to say, keep trying. Even if you don't capture it with your camera, it will capture your heart.

Nice sediment on the importance of memory. I look at the photos I took at last August's eclipse, they are sterile compared to my memory.

First trip I made was a scrub also , 2 nd trip was great , this is a shot of booster separation on I believe Discovery at 300 miles down range , with a Nikon d300 with a 300 f4 prime , only 12.3 megapixels you are looking at the business end of the shuttle ,the flames , and the 2 boosters being jettisoned.

Here is my launch shot from a few years ago. I was several miles away and in a NASA viewing area. 500mm + 2X extender. It was over in seconds.

I saw a dawn shuttle launch several years ago while visiting my parents in Venice (they're snowbirds). They asked me what I wanted to do since nobody had plans - heard about the shuttle launch and that was that. We left at like 0230 the next morning to drive to the cape...perfect weather and perfect launch. I took a video of it and my mom took a pic with her panoramic Kodak...pic on my FB page. It's the only time I've seen a launch and will never forget it. Stood across the lake with a few thousand of my closest strangers. After they lit the candle we took a tour of the facilities.
