WR Lenses ... is any lens (or any camera, for that matter) - totally waterproof, or is it just theoretical?

Now, look - don't regale me with model numbers of cameras designed to go underwater. This one's about street cameras, only. Is there full protection, or no?

Yes, some Olympus cameras are totally waterproof up to 15m deep.

Not worded like this, Richard ... that one was about cameras ... this one is more focused on the lenses ... you can use one w/o the other, but, it's not really that wise ... k?

Is there a modern camera without a lens?

Do you mean - can you wind up with a WR lens w/o a WR camera? ... Of course you can ... and vice-versa, too ....

In fact - not many lenses ARE WR ... many Pentax ones ... but I don't see that specification for Nikon, Canon or Sony ones ... do you?

Yes.
It is not theoretical.

Again, and I am not talking about water resistant, I am talking about water proof - do your research.
Yes, some Olympus cameras are totally waterproof up to 15m deep (according to the specs).

Unless the camera is designed for underwater use none of the lens is really waterproof. Even lenses for the Nikonos aren't waterproof unless they are mounted on the camera.

If it was waterproof, it would be advertised as waterproof. If it's weather resistant or water resistant, then it is NOT waterproof.

So, no WR lens is waterproof, let alone TOTALLY waterproof.

And it's not theoretical. It's real.

Somehow, Richard ... the redundancy called for in this response - cries out to me ....

But, sorry ... I just went deaf ....

Nikonos cameras are designed for scuba diving ... they HAVE to be waterproof, D ... both lens and camera ...

This is about weather resistance / water resistance (WR) as opposed to outright waterproof ....

Although, it could be said a STREET dig cam - designed to be used when the rain starts pouring on you (drenching you) - is - waterproof ....

But, from my understanding, so far - there are not very many truly like that - BOTH CAMERA AND LENS .... trying to get to the heart of the matter ....

John, it's theoretical, if a lens is labeled Weather Resistant ... and then chokes up, when you're out there, shooting with it, and you're suddenly drenched!

Get my point?

There are hardly any lenses out there that are totally water resistant (and I don't mean waterproof - I don't think there is a single one)!

No, it's not theoretical. Weather resistant does not mean water proof. From a practical stand point, it means the lens has seals; the more the merrier. Olympus is quite good, and will take a good drenching without failing. Sony is quite bad; I wouldn't trust Sonys in anything heavier than dew.

And no, I don't get your point.
