Sunset north of Phoenix over Thanksgiving 2017. Handheld, Nikon D7000 w/18-200mm, 18mm, ISO 640, 1/125/f3.5, from 5 shots. PP in CS6

Appreciate this forum section, hope to learn more. Critiques/suggestions welcome. I was traveling light on my trip so no tripod. Beautiful sunsets in AZ, and they last a long time too. I didn't venture off road too far because of cactus that seems to 'jump' out and gets you. Next time I'll pack a flashlight too.

On a subject like this one the foreground needs to be part of the DoF acceptable focus range. Using hyper-focal would help you quite a bit toward that goal.

The idea is there.

Other than that the panorama is ok.

Thank you for that input. I also read that panoramic heads are not really necessary, but can they be helpful?

I think its a wonderful image. But I'm very biased. Miss our life in Arizona and its cold and snowing here!
Seriously nice shot but the focus could have been better. Had you focused more on the foreground and the clouds were a little bit soft, who would know? They're soft to begin with

Yes but one has to be honest ONLY when you are dealing with large or multi-row panoramas... Even so...

You can create handheld panoramas w/o using any logical order... As illustrated here... Even the camera orientation was changed!

I don't know about Lightroom, but Autostitch does not require the photos for the panorama to be in any particular order--it figures that out on its own. It can even handle a mix of portrait and landscape aspects as long as all have the same orientation (direction of UP).

Nice shot. I like that hint of a new moon up there. I would crop of some of the foreground to emphasize that big, beautiful sky.

I always travel with a tripod. I have two and use the lighter one when on the road. I take it apart to get it into the suitcase. You never know when you will need it but this is definitely the time. As already mentioned, you should have stopped down. While image stabilization might work, the tripod definitely will. You really need more depth of field.

My eye suggested to me that the horizon wasn't quite level. If you are setting up your tripod and rotating the camera on the central column, you need to be sure the tripod top is level which will make the column straight up and down. A small hand level helps here.
Looking a little closer, there are two saguaros, one at each far side that tilt away from the center. That suggests to me that the camera is slightly tipped upward when centered on the image area.
