Sounds good to me. Go for it.

I wanna trade up on some of my camera bodies. Unfortunately though, Money $$$ is a major concern. Currently, I have a Canon 7D, which is in good shape, a little scuffing on the body, but the images are still great. I am not sure of the shutter count. I have a friend who will give me $350 for it in cash. Then again, I have a Canon 5D mk i. It too is in good shape. I am not sure what I can get for it, maybe another $350. Finally, and this one is the keeper, a new 70D.

I don’t need 3 Camera bodies and want to get rid of the first 2, but...I want a full frame and crop one too. I have done a little reading and by specs, I like the Canon EOS 6D.

So, my plan is to sell the 7D and 5D, to help finance the 6D.

What do you think about my logic, such as it is?

6D has few bells and whistles, but it is an excellent camera. One thing that you may want to consider before you make that move though is the money you may have to spend on new lenses.

OK, this is my view on updating photo equipment. My primary DSLR (actually my only DSLR) is a Nikon D5100 purchased in 2013. It is still a great camera and is able to produce the photos that I desire, so why update. Would I like to update it for a D7500, D7200, D500, or one of the FX Nikons? Of course I would. But there are many dollars involved, as well as my wonderful wife. Will I ever update. I don't know. I am now 73 years old, I've had a minor heart attack, I've had a knee replacement, and I feel like I am getting old. Perhaps, too old to spend money on everything new. Yes, I have both kinds of GAS but only one is related of Gear Acquisition.

My D5100 is a very good camera, I understand it and know its limitations. I have taken photos that have sold (not that I really care), photos that have been accepted by Stock photo agencies, and have really enjoyed the photos I have taken (and processed).

When my D5100 becomes the limiting factor, then, and only then, will I consider upgrading.

I started my fascination with photography when I was about 10, that was in 1954! I have been in and out of photography ever since then, depending what was happening in my life. During college, I was not into photography, when I was married I was back into photography, when I became a father, I was really into photography

Yes, I had my own darkroom.

Don't let GAS, get you down. But, I don't know how you can prevent gas from getting you down.

Chef, I think your logic is flawed!
By a 6D, I assume you mean a used 6dmkl?
If it's cheap enough, maybe. But if you're talking new, go for a used 5Dmkll. They are getting cheap and it's twice the camera the 6mkl will ever be, I don't care WHAT it's lowlight capability is, unless it's the ONLY thing you do.
If your talking about a 6Dll, I recently bought a used 1Dx for less, what would YOU rather shoot?
BTW, get rid of the 70, unless it's the only camera you're going to shoot.
Almost always, it's pointless to have two cameras for the 5% of the time you might need it. Unless you're a pro, and a pro wouldn't even have that camera.
Chef, just my 2 cents!! Good luck!!!

I,tend to agree with Sharp—and it’s not really brand specific. I’ve taken photos for 50 years using Canons, Pentaxes, Minolta, Nikons, Fuji’s, Hassies, Mamiyas. The only failure I had was the Hassleblad. Go figure.

You have a good point, but when I started dabbling around in this addictive game, I made the decision to try and get only EF compatible lenses. And honestly, a lot of those bells and whistles are not so important to me.

SS, I use the crop frame for outside bird shooting and really like it. So, I ask(with all due respect): what is the problem with the 70D over the 7D? In my studio, such as it is, I like a full frame body. I have heard the 5D ii has some issues, and it is old tech, compared to the 6D.

I am in learning mode here.

Okay, I have the 6D mk II and love it. Articulated touch screen and Bluetooth controls from my smartphone as well as wireless uploads to my computer. Coupled with my 24-105 f/4L lens it produces superb photos. It is heavy if that is a concern. I have seen ads where the price is down from initial release price and bundled in is the Canon BG-E21 battery grip (MSRP $200.). I do have the same concern as others that your current lenses may not work well or work at all with the 6D so you might want to check before you jump on this specific model and then have to spend a lot of extra money on lenses.

That was for the laughs you asked for, though it’s more silly than funny. As to your question, you want one of each, go for it, and don’t even consider what anyone else thinks about it. I have a full frame and a crop camera myself, I enjoy using both, and my wife is happy for me - I certainly don’t care about the opinion of anyone here!

I had a 6D and thought that the IQ was excellent, I finally moved up to the 5DMKIV only because I was comfortable in getting rid of both my 6D and 7DmkII to make that move.
