Affinity: follow up.

I just wanted to give you a follow up on Affinity for those interested. A new and more powerful computer was installed yesterday replacing my old one.
ALL programs including Affinity Photo now run at the speed of light. The images seem to pop now.
Affinity is a very good editor that I recommend if you need one.

I am also in the market for a new computer. Could you tell me what you got along with the specifications? My old computer is a MacBook Pro but I am thinking of switching to a PC laptop because it is upgradeable. What are your thoughts?

You affirm my observations. I am using Affinity on a new computer that is configured for that sort of work and it is awesome. I really enjoy Affinity.

I got a used Asus ROG machine with dedicated graphics RAM and GPU with 16GB RAM and a SSD. Affinity pops.

I don't think the brand matters. I am typing this on a old (6 years) HP laptop. But, last year I put in a new 500gb SSD and upgraded the Ram to 16gb. Same result, blinding performance. Boots up in 10 seconds and turns off the same time. Every program runs faster and no lag on anything.

Second the motion! I'm working to learn all its aspects...somewhat arduous, but I feel it will be well worth it in the end. And an added plus, we own it!

I am not a computer guru. What I have is a Think Station P-320 by Lenovo, Windows 10 OS. It comes with 16 Gb. of memory but my son added some more. My son works for Lenovo.
In my humble opinion any modern computer will do. A solid state disk helps a lot. My old Gateway was already 6 years old and programs like Affinity were very slow to open and work with. It was my son who actually did the upgrade for me. You should be fine with any modern computer with at least 16 Gb. of RAM.
Another solution to updating is to buy a SSD and more RAM like one of the members did.

The key is plenty of RAM (16GB +), an Solid State Drive and dedicated video RAM.

The number one solution to a slow computer is to replace at least the startup drive with an SSD. Solid State Devices are basically static memory. They are many, many times faster than hard drives! So anything that requires lots of input and output will be faster with an SSD as the source and destination for data.
The second major solution to a slow computer is to increase available RAM — Random Access Memory. Extra RAM reduces or eliminates the need to use a hard drive or SSD as virtual memory, so more of the applications and data remain in fast memory, close to the processor. You can also keep several applications open at the same time.
The third major solution to a slow computer is to upgrade the video card, if it can be swapped out. A fast video processor with lots of Video RAM (VRAM) will help write large files to the screen faster.
The fourth major solution to a slow computer is to upgrade the CPU — the microprocessor. Relatively few machines can be upgraded this way without replacing the motherboard or the entire computer... But if your Mac or PC is more than five years old, and you need to edit 4K video or process big batches of large raw files, it's time.
Just about all the other remedies are fairly marginal, compared to the four listed above. Most of us can upgrade the RAM and swap the hard drive for an SSD, and call it a success. Doing that is relatively inexpensive, and can extend the productive life of your machine by several years.
