I'm still an NPPA member and enjoy their magazine but am now listed as Retired (to be honest).
My friend and fellow MU J-School graduate, Bill Eppridge, was featured in a bio story with his picture on their magazine cover. Bill took that iconic shot of Robert Kennedy moments after the
tragic shooting in that hotel kitchen, working first for LIFE Magazine and then Sports Illustrated.
Bill died, sadly, of MS a few years ago but kept shooting until he could no longer hold a camera!

Ted, Still an NPPA member also. Met Eppridge a couple of times at Time-Life. Sadly, I had heard about his passing a while ago. A true giant of photojournalism.
It is great that us older veterans of the biz lend our knowledge to this forum. Keep it up !

This is one of the dozen or so classic UHH “discussions” in which there are two camps, irreconcilably opposed and neither of which will ever change their position, regardless of any evidence presented. Let’s see, we have:

FF vs crop
DSLR vs mirrorless
TCs/extenders (good or bad)
PC vs Mac
Canon vs Nikon (although this one seems to be winding down)
Filters vs no filters (and hoods)
Film is dead (or not)
Cropping FF vs crop cameras vs extenders
ISO invariance
ETTR
Effect of crop cameras on FL and fstop
Effect of crop and FF cameras on DOF
Windows 10 (best yet or pure evil)
Security/reliability of cloud storage providers.

What have I left out?

Pretty much covered it !

Debate and discussion is good for spreading ideas, philosophies and knowledge, even if there is never a consensus of opinion. Cheers !

How about Sony vs. everyone else, or slow Apple vs. Glow Samsung?

Nothing I can recall! Pretty good repeat list. Search any of those topics and you'll be inundated.

Sure, and I forgot MFA (microfocus fine adjustment) - how could I possibly forget that? Maybe Jerry can make us a page of links that covers the list 😂

Thanks Ted, we may have met when I was on the NPPA Executive Board. My instructors in Photojournalism at R.I.T and my mentors from the Washington Post ,Newsday and the LA Times taught me this "ounce of prevention" as a young photojournalist coming up. After decades in the biz as a staffer at the Philadelphia Inquirer and freelancer for Time , Newsweek and others, the basic truths remain whether you are shooting film or digital, amateur, student or pro.

Yes we are "beating a dead horse" here. Hopefully this reasoned and proven advice is getting through.

Mr. Williams: Where are you when I need your professional back-up, as one to another?! I've
been commenting on the subject of film cameras and repeatedly get insulting responses from a
"regular" member who puts me down in the worst way and I'm thinking of unsubscribing since I
can't deal with obnoxious (likely) amateurs like this since I look back fondly on my long career!
This "regular" member hides behind a moniker like "chaman".

Ted, I am here now to lend another longtime professional's voice. I get the haters here also, and in YouTube reviewer's comment sections. Yes it is usually from some anonymous moniker.

Don't pay attention to idiots. Report them to administration.

No need to leave the forum. There will always be a couple of members with snarky or insulting posts out of the thousands that participate, and you will never win an argument with them. Just don’t “feed the troll” - don’t respond, and they’ll eventually quit. You can also add them to your Ignore list so that they can’t comment on any thread you start or send you any messages, but you can’t stop them from responding on threads you don’t start (although if you can persuade them to add you to their Ignore list as well, you won’t see any of their posts). From my experience, admin will not do anything to moderate this unless it becomes political or the language is very foul, and then the thread may be moved to the attic. You won’t see an exchange as bad as the one you’re discussing that often, so hang in there - the majority of users are nice, and while there are heated debates, not many turn into mutual insults, and when that happens, just unwatch and Ignore.

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks, Chris, I'll keep trying for a while (like your cat photo as I've got a lovely Calico cat!).

Interesting advice but how would I go about reporting such an "idiot" to the Administration?

Mr. Williams, thanks for responding and I feel better with your support as a fellow pro. Click on

Yes I saw his rude and ignorant post directed at you. I like you will remain here as long as folks are civil. We can disagree, but their is no place for personal attacks and disrespect for someone's valid professional experience that is being offered.

Cheers to you Ted !
