It has been said that the vomit sacks found on airplanes make excellent diffusers. Unused, of course.
For on camera flash I mostly use the built in pull up white card on my Canon EX-RT, however I also use a Rouge Flash Bender when I have the time and plan ahead. Interesting video link follows.

Being very new to flash photography, I am seeking advice on what is considered a good, but affordable soft box or diffuser to fit on the speed light that will soften light / shadows but is easily stored and transported in a sling style bag with top compartments (Lowepro AW150). It will not be used a ton, but will be used inside and outdoors. Some portrait photos will be taken, but necessarily the main use. In searching older posts on this site, there seems to be very little discussion about the subject and the range is from the very expensive (Gary Fong, to the out of the dumpster, used Dixie paper plate. From what I have looked at so far (Youtube / Google reviews) it seems that Altura and Flashbender seem to be very popular. So - looking for input, recommendations, how you use what you believe in and results ached based on wishes. I am not looking for a large unit, again something that packs down for portability. Thanks for the time you take to offer suggestions. Mike

I purchsed a set of softboxes for the flash gun. I found them at B&H. It might be worth a search of the B&H web page. The set has one round and two rectangles (a small and larger) softboxes.

I tried a lot of speedlight bouncers and softboxes, but this 12 inch "lollipop" softbox has been by far my favorite:

I usually take the speedlight off camera and hold it in my left hand to get better positioning, and to get the light source closer. If you are shooting more than a couple feet away, you'd better bounce off walls/ceilings, and if you can't to that, don't bother trying to diffuse or soften as it for the most part won't work.
Good luck.

I have the 12" and 16" from Neewer. a bit cheaper. works great when you have high ceilings or dark walls. no velcro needed. twist it to close and it fits into a very small case.
I have used many flash diffusers. The best one I have ever used, and I now use most of the time if I do not want to set up a large soft box etc., is the Graslon Infinity with their Dome Lens, Graslon.com It is like shooting with a soft box attached to your flash, even while the flash is in the camera's shoe.

Fold a white envelope in half, shape it to taste and attach it to the flash with a rubber band. Works as well as most things you can buy. Takes up almost no space at all.
Good suggestions - will have to look int these more and see what fits best. Thanks,
Grey Goose,
I too was looking for diffusers on the internet for my Lumix DMW FL360L to be used on the FMZ 1000. In doing so, I happened to come across a company I have not heard of previously, 'MAGMOD'. You may want to check out their equipment. One magnetic rubber device goes around the flash head and it has several magnets embedded into it. Then, you attach various attachments such as grids or color filters or a snoot to the front of it via the magnets which are supposed to be very strong. Their videos are pretty explanatory. The convenience factor is expensive, I think a bounce attachment would be in the vicinity of $75.00 for the two pieces of equipment I am interested in.
