I am quite happy with the Corel products. I use Paintshop Pro 2018 ultimate and Aftershot Pro 3 and upgraded from Paintshop Pro 8 ultimate. I have tested Adobe products and Afinity and did not find them any better or faster. Most of the plugins for PS work with Paintshop Pro 2018. Occasionally, Corel runs a sale and you can get the software very cheaply.

I've used for many years and have always upgraded to new versions. I think it is a great program.

How user friendly is Corel? Is it a one time buy or subscription. I'm fairly new at digital photography but not new to photography. I presently use Picasa but I want to get the best out of my photos. I mainly shoot landscapes and want to be able to crop, intensify the colors, change the color temp....mostly basic stuff. Some of us old dogs want to learn new tricks....but struggle with it. Thanks.

You would be taking a large step up from Picasa. The workspace on Paintshop Pro might look mind boggling at first sight. However, the basics that you are familiar with are pretty straight forward and user friendly. Then you can grow into using some of the of the more advanced functions and it becomes something that you don't want to be without. It will allow you to get the best out of your photos. It is not a subscription piece of software such as Photoshop and Lightroom. You pay once and you can use it for as long as you wish. But, to get the yearly updates you would have to repurchase the new upgrade. And, you can always ask questions right here on the UHH. As you can see, there are many Paintshop Pro users here who can offer some help. Good luck with whatever software you might choose and have a GREAT DAY!

I have seen many discussions about the pros and cons of many different post photo processing computer software.
However I have not seen anyone mention Corel PaintShop Pro 2018, which is the latest version. I have used this
product for many years going back to at least 2001. Was just wondering is anyone has any additional thoughts
or comments on it. Thank-you.

Corel PaintShop Pro is the only editing software I've used. I have used it for many years and it does everything that I need. PhotoShop is too expensive.

I first came across Paint Shop many many years ago when it was a freebie from JASC and came in a bundle of software with a new computer. Over the years, I played around with Paint Shop and Photoshop and now, because of the horrendous pricing of Photoshop, I have Paint Shop Pro on my computer and find that it does everything that I want to do with photographs. It also helped that Corel gave a 75% discount to upgrade to the latest iteration just before Christmas.

It may be that Photoshop has more and has captured the professional market but as a "Snapshot Photographer", I find that I do not need all the bells and whistles and in fact, I do not do a lot of "fixing" to the photos that I take.
