What is a good inexpensive flash for a DSLR these days? Canon and Nikon seem to go overboard for these and all I want to do is bounce it or???? This has probable been asked to death but I'm relatively new here and I can take the abuse. RT would be good to have to sync them up.
Yongnuo - I have their yn600ex-rt, clone of the Canon 600 but only a bit over $100 now. You can get three of them, the radio remote trigger and some accessories for the list price of the Canon 600.

Make sure you get the 600ex-rt II, the earlier model, the 600ex-rt doesn't use external power, the EX-RT II does. The 686ex-rt uses a lithium ion battery. I've gotten over 700 flashes on a single charge.

my yn600ex-rt has external battery pack plug built in
Just be careful closing the battery compartment. I just ordered 2 extra doors for my Yongnuo ring flash, and I am damn careful with my gear. It seems to be an issue with some of their flash models. I am nonetheless happy with the product though, and also believe they are a good value.

Godox, marketed as Flashpoint by Adorama, makes a pretty extensive line of flashes, and a lot of them have radio receivers. Their monolights are compatible too, if you want to get into more power. They offer some speedlights with a lithium-ion battery letting you shoot all day. (650 full-power flashes on one charge) More HERE.

A few people here on UHH have recommended the Orlit RT-600 TTL RT speedlite sold at Adorama for $89.99. That will be my next purchase from them to add to my real Canon 600 speedlite.
