The both make many of the same lens you would have to go lens to lens for a fair comparison.

Actually, it's a little easier than that ....

Tamron only has three G2 lenses, currently ... the 24-70, the 70-200 and the 150-600 ...

By contrast, Sigma - at last count - has 14 ...

And neither of their two 150-600 lenses are part of the Art Lens series ... one's Sport (the expensive one) and the other's Contemporary (the cheap one)

And, there doesn't seem to be a 70-200 Art, either ... although there IS a 24-70 Art ... all the rest of them seem to be short zooms or primes ... (and the 50-100 F1.8)

I got turned off Tamron lenses years ago. Had a Tamron zoom(before AF lenses were in the market), and the zoom (push-pull) I could cope with. But the focus (rotate) worked in the opposite way to all of my Nikon lenses. PITA when trying to manual follow-focus sports events. This was 1960's era. I have a few Sigma lenses now, 18-35 f/1.8 Art and 150 - 600, both recent purchases, and love them both. My Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 has been in regular use for a number of years, on F Nikons, digital aps, and FF bodies. Don't have any Tamron lenses at all.

The weak link on the Tamron lenses is that the rubber grip on the zoom ring comes lose and that allows dust into the lens. The Sigma lenses don't seem to be susceptible to the same problem.

Also as another poster has already stated the Sigma lenses are generally heavier and seem to be better built.

I have replaced all but one of my Tamron G2 lenses and still have all my Sigma art lenses.

Really, BTBG?

Has this happened to you with Tamron G2 lenses, or are you referring to OTHER Tamron glass?

I don't think Tamron uses push-pull focus, anymore ... Tokina does, though ... is it possible you've mixed them up, Pablo?

Yes, you're right, though - about the turn action ... but, that usually is a small price to pay ... it doesn't bother me - switching back and forth, between the two ...

Definitely Tamron, ask 'Miss World' 1969/70, she posed /toy'd with the lens on Nikon body, while I took photographs of her with a Rolleiflex, during her year in office. Eva was the most obliging 'Miss World' I had the pleasure of photographing.one to one.
P,S. I'm too cautious about giving out 'phone numbers.

Good informative report, thanks btbg ! The Sigma lenses are built very solid and have stood up to my professional use. Many pros are buying Sigma lenses over the native lenses for their Nikon, Canon and Sony cameras. Just check out the YouTube videos and reviews of the Sigma lenses compared with native lenses.

Which Tamron lens was that, Pablo?

I have 6 Sigma lenses (out of two dozen total) but the Sigma name is on more glass I own than any other ....

Next up, though - would be Tamron - at least 5 ...

Then Canon - 3 total ... (Sony, too)

But, I've yet to find it in the budget, to buy any ART lenses. But, I think, when I do - it will most probably be the 50-100 f1.8 ....

I saw ONE of that guy's videos. One was enough as far as I'm concerned...seemed very unprofessional to me (language-wise) for a public teaching/review video. I have a Sigma and a couple Tamrons, but no native Sony's - too pricey, but rented one last summer I liked a lot.

I like the Tamron lenses, most especially - for that gold band they used to sport ... it may not have made them "better" but it sure made them look classy!

The latest generation, though - has dropped the gold band, Go - in favor of a - more-or-less - silver - one ... they refer to it as "Titanium" not sure it is, though ...

Anyway, I have a Tamron 10-24, a Tamron SP 60 f2 Macro, a Tamron SP 70-300 VC USD, and a Tamron 18-270 VC PZD - all in EOS mount ... all with the gold band!

Oh, yes ... and I also have a Tamron 18-200 XR Macro - for my Pentax K-50, also, with the gold band - was gonna buy another for my Sony, but then they dropped it!

I was all set to pick up one of those Tamron SP 90 VC USD Macro lenses, but, then, I read a review indicating it was all open at the flange end ... so, gave up on that!

Not sure I will buy any of the newer ones, without it ... I doubt it ... probably go all Sigma, now - for the better build.

Which one did you rent, Plane ... was it the 70-400?

That's the only Sony lens that's gotten me drooling, anyway ....

All of the others, are duplicated by Sigma (except for the 16-105) and can be gotten much cheaper ...

Plus - Tamron made a version of their 16-300 - for Sony "A" mount ... not their newer 18-400, though ... such a shame!!!!

If memory serves me right, probably something like 70 - 200 f/5.6. or f/6.3 manual throughout. (threw out). Gave it to a young Nephew. A very modest lens by todays offerings.
