I am just getting back into photography after several years and looking at Nikon 3400. 42 Street has best price I can find, anyone have any dealings with them? Reviews I have read are good.
Don't know of anyone here who would recommend them!
Been in business long time.
Where did you read those reviews ?
I would do a lot more research on them as they are the king of "bait and switch".

This could go to several pages, but basically, avoid them. They have a bad reputation. They sell gray market goods, make phone calls to get you to buy more, may not include everything should come with the camera, etc. Prices are controlled by manufacturers, so if you see a lower price, beware.
Some good dealers -
Adorama, Amazon, B&H, Cameta, Costco, Crutchfield, Hunt’s, Robert’s
I've shopped there years ago 1988 or so but have always shopped in person and found them helpful and great prices. However, that was before the use of the internet.
Now searching is done easily.
I recently bought a lens from them I am returning. They advertised as tamron but never mentioned it was grey market.
My experience with them included, a phone call saying they didn’t have what I ordered in stock, a Nikon OEM battery and OEM charger. Offering to substitute another “comparable” item. A lame excuse when that did not arrive, apparently never having those items shipped in the first place. Then having to threaten disputing the charges with my credit card provider to get a refund when I canceled the order?

No, run!
B&H, Adorama, KEH, Cameta; are recommended commonly on the UHH. I've been happy with B&H, Adorama, eBay, and Amazon. You know what they say about something too good to be true...

Many more negatives than positives.
This question has been asked many times on UHH. If you use the "Search" link at the top of the page, you can read them all.
The last I checked them, their Better Business Bureau membership had been revoked.
There are a few, actually, quite a few that deserve to be shut down. 42 St is just one. If anyone is curious about a vendor's reputation, just do a review of the store. The complaints all bear a similar refrain and they are not complimentary.
The big, good on-line dealers have earned their reputations. Also, although they are becoming increasingly hard to find, local brick and mortar stores are there to help. My personal favorite is Robert's in Indianapolis, three hours away.
Do a search for 42 Street here on UHH. Read and learn.
Scary stuff! Thanks for the warning. I will look at other sites. Was wanting a Nikon 3400 kit, but with a 70-300 VR instead of the standard that comes with the kit, 42Street has just the body and 18-55 and advertise a great price on the VR zoom

Kings of Bait and Switch. As others will say, if it is too good to be true, it probably is.
