I fail to see how you arrived at your comment. Mefoto is not expensive but both Amazon and BH reviewers give it a 4.5 out of 5.

I'll tell you why. Day before yesterday my camera club had some guest speakers come and talk at length about stable platforms i.e. tripods, monopods, bean bags and discs. Mefoto was the one that was singled out by many that said it was not doing what they wanted. Many concurred. This was the only tripod that was singled out as not performing up to the standards that most people expected.

Thanks for the recommendations and suggestions about a tripod. I bit the bullet and purchased the Gitzo GT-1555 tripod without the Gitzo ball head.

For the head, I am considering the RRS BH-40, the RRS BH-30, or the Acratech GP-ss. Any thoughts on those heads or other similar ones.

The clamps loosen up and require a tool to adjust, and they are flimsy. The bottom legs are very skinny which isn't a stable platform.
