Because of it's close focusing ability, the 100-400 has practically retired my 100mm 2.8 macro lens. it is a very versatile lens and I only use my 70-200 2.8 in low light situations. Enjoy your new machine.

For Christmas I received a new Canon EOS 5D Mark IV camera with a 24-105mm lens. Could someone recommend additional lenses for this camera & any tips about using this camera? Unfortunately my last camera; Canon 60D lenses aren't compatible with this camera.
Lucky! Awesome gift! A 24-70 f/2.8L II remains “permanently” attached to my 5DMkIV. Love this lens.
I like Ken's advice, but would add that you should rent a lens here and there to experiment without going broke or buying something you don't need or use.

100-400mm L MII (One of the sharpest and well built EF lenses available, I have it and agree with the ratings) and the 16-35mm L MIII (Also a superb unbeatable lens) and you have it all covered perfectly. The 100-400mm is near macro as well.
Can't possibly beat these 2 plus your 24-105 for absolute versatility no matter what else is said.

Thanks for the info on the Canon 5D MIV. I like taking portraits, scenery, macro (especially of flowers), street scenes & buildings.
The 100mm f2.8L macro also makes a fine portrait lens.
The 16-35mm f2.8L is a great wide-angle lens for landscape. The newest revision is III, I have the II, it is substantially discounted now.
Your 24-105, I think it is f4 L, is a great all-around lens, wide enough for scenery, enough reach for urban, is unobtrusive.
I would maybe add a 50mm prime, they are inexpensive, I have the Sigma f1.4 Art lens and love it.
16-35 f/2.8 Mark III
24-70 f/2.8 Mark II
70-200 f/2.8 Mark II
100-400mm Mark II

My suggestion is not to buy any lenses. Use the camera as is for a while then you will know what you want to add. 24-105mm would cover a very good range. I think more than 90% of my pictures are within that range.
I think that is a good suggestion.
