Neighbors would trade for food, help each other build homes, etc. Everyone is out for themselves now-a-days and it is really sad. I am not saying that your work should go unpaid, but maybe u can teach him how to do it. Maybe/maybe not it was his intention to "get something for free without working for it". Just because u have been burned in the past, doesn't mean u have to hold a grudge against anyone who needs a hand up not necessarily a hand out. If u don't want to help, then don't. But, don't make nasty comments. This forum is supposed to be for people to learn. U could've said, "I won't do it for you, but this is how you can do it yourself". The young man is very talented with a camera indeed and I am sure his watermark would be amazing if he made it himself.

I know you have one already but I did this in illustrator and PS quite quick. You can choose the best one that fits your needs.

You would open your image in PS then open the water mark png in PS select all, on the watermark and choose copy. Return to your image and paste as a new layer. Use free transform whilst holding shift key (restraining the constraints) to resize the watermark layer to fill accross centre of image and then bring the opacity of the watermark layer down as that it does not obscure the view of the image but is there if people wanted to rip it.

Remember a watermark should be subtle and not interupt peoples viewing.

IMPORTANT! Save as a layered tiff or psd file 1st then save as a flattened jpeg for uploading. Keep the original or the tiff incase you want to remove the watermark later.

I uploded with the store original option so that you can download it for your needs.

To the rest of the people who dissed Josh, then if a guy can't spend 10 minutes to help a fellow hogg what is this forum about. I bet some of you spend longer than this discussing Critique.

I might be able to see the dissing of Josh if he were and adult. It is obvious he is a kid or teenager. Once again some really nice "Hogs" came through for him. I am surprised the Anti-watermark "do it yourself" remarks came from people I know and respect on this board.

and should be an.

I can't see dissing anyone asking for help regardless of age. We don't know their circumstance or their capabilities. There must be some folks here that have never needed help or been to broke to afford what they want or need. I believe that when you do something good for someone else expecting nothing in return, regardless of their or your station in life, blessings are received. Call it karma or what you want but to pay it forward brings joy to ones heart that you can get no other way.

The OP asked for help in designing a watermark and was given an exceptional example of how it can be done. There is absolutely nothing wrong with offering your expertise for FREE if it encourages the recipient to learn more, and, the OP in the future will pass on this knowledge again. What is wrong with that?

This was very nice of you to do for the kid mafadecay. Very thoughtful to include instructions on how to use.

For the rest of you that assumed the kid was just trying to get work done for free - shame on you! He was simply asking a favor. Since when is it not right to ask a favor of someone. Since when is it not ok to offer help for free. Jeeze! I call it kindness. I call what you do 'selfish'! If you don't want to help, just refrain from saying anything. Next time maybe you can tutor or provide a step by step instruction or a link to youtube on how to do it. I thought this site was a place to get help - not a place to be called lazy stupid or a bum looking for a handout.

umm you're right, I'm a bad, bad person who has given nothing to this form. Ha ha ha ha ha

The title of this thread screams entitlement, pure and simple, and where in the world did anyone call the OP lazy, stupid or a bum?

I've discussed this issue with a few close friends here at UHH privately and they all agree, if the Admin can not or will not take steps to remove members who are not only stealing images, but also harass other members and make them feel uneasy about being here then I will not be posting the lessons that I spend my free time on this forum. After all, why would I freely give up something I put my heart and soul into that benefits the Admin (learning how to use your camera is what he markets this site on) if he refuses to police this site?

I would like to say my recent experience was a one time thing here at UHH, but we all know that is not true. I have been singled out more than once, other members have been harassed to the point that they have left this forum, good members, very talented members have left UHH. So as a form of protest, I will hold back the one thing I can offer UHH that is of any value.

MWAC,

I understand your reluctance to post content here after your recent experience, but that would be a great loss to the rest of the membership that displays respect for your work and experience.

I can apologize for what happened to you, but I have no accountability in UHH for what occurred. With that I send my best wishes that this week will be much better than the past weeks.

WOW!! LOVE that rose!! Now, if you extend the right side to include the full 'sprig' of leaves, leaving the upper right empty and creating a 2:3.5 image, you would have an AWESOME business card background!!

It would be a great pity if you stopped those lessons as you have EARNED a lot of respect.

It was certainly INEXCUSABLE for the Admin to not remove that picture whether it breached any rules or not, but look at the response, look at the friends you have made and perhaps take that as payment for your greatly appreciated efforts.

Boo hiss to those that let you down but I'm sure you are made of sterner stuff and we might hopefully see our old MWAC return?

Good for you! I agree completely. I would NEVER ask someone else to do my work for me, especially involving something as personal as a watermark. When I didn't know how to make one, I researched watermarks until I found what I needed to know, then taught myself. It was actually fun.

This young man was given the information he needed to make his own watermark, but didn't use it. He has learned nothing about making watermarks, but a lot about begging.

Those who sent him watermarks thinking they were helping him, did not help him. All they did was enable him to continue this behavior.

How does the quote go? "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach him to fish and feed him for a lifetime."

I find it more than a little ironic that the same voice(s) who pleads the case for people receiving things from the government for "free" raises such a stink when someone asks for help for free. All of a sudden they are concerned about people working for free? There is a big difference too that makes the raised hackles even worse. The government uses force to collect taxes (from people's work) to pay for these freebies. The OP cannot use force so if someone helped it was from free volition not threat or force.

Still chuckling over the irony. Made my week.

By the way, if someone wants a watermark I will make one -free- if it is within the skill set I have. I used to make "sigs" - hundreds of them over a period of few years - for many people in a couple of car forums. I will not consider my work to be free but a chance to build my watermark portfolio which I will leverage to my advantage down the road for a profit. :-D

Pm requests and I'll let you know if I can help

ya thinking all people should be entitled to good and free (or low cost) healthcare in a nation that prides it's self on family values, totally relates to asking someone to make a watermark for free. bahhhahhhhhh... you people are amazing.

I have been taking photographs for over 40 years but I'm not a professional, I have been programming computers for 30 years but not considered a professional programmer (even though I was paid to do it), I have been using different graphics programs for 20 years but not a graphic designer, but when someone asks me for help I will gladly give it for FREE.

If this is the way you feel, hopefully you don't ask for help, advice, or any assistance with any of your photos either.

And the hypocrisy you hold in this matter is amazing. The principle is the same and if you can't see it, well, you can't see it.
