One thing I know for certain is that the gashole in my vehicle is located somewhere rearward of the front bumper.

Loc: Finally decided to plop down, Clover, S.C.
Years of fighting with big brother was needed just to pump my own gas in my motorcycle. Finely got permissions when threatened with lawsuits for repairing or replacing paint ruined by a pump jockey that wasn't careful. Finally got proper permissions to pump but legally had to have pump jocky remove nozzle and set up pump. Most usually ignored that detail. It has been a REAL pain to not at least have the option of pumping your own gas. Ironically gas prices in Washington (where you pump your own) were always higher than in Oregon where you were not allowed to touch the pump. I was always told that it was that way due to who would be responsible for accidents while pumping gas. And to those who wonder there are NO full service stations. All they do is pump gas!
It’s all the Kool-Aid they drink out there.
Oh, that reminds me, I need to put gas in my car..............
Can remember traveling through Oregon and stopping at a gas station. Was told by the station attendant that it was illegal for us to pump our own gas. She immediately started pumping the gas and then checked our oil and other liquids. How nice it was to stay in our warm rental vehicle. Was happy to help pay for someone to have a job and have a little extra comfort. Being handicapped at the time it was great having someone provide the assistance which I have a had hard times receiving at many other stations at the time.
From the article to which Jerry posted the link. I just left out the hyphen.

I saw this on Facebook, and laughed my ^&* off. We’ve been doing it for at least 40 years here in Indiana, and I don’t think anyone has died doing it yet. I don’t know of any station that pumps gas for a customer. There may be one somewhere, but I’m not sure. Also, we have lots of 24-hour stations, and many others that let one pump at night with a cc, even though they are closed.

Believe they tried to change to pumping your own gas in Oregon but there was a large hue and cry over the loss of jobs.
Oregon cries for the ducks going barefoot.
I live in Josephine County Southern Oregon...but came from the Bay Area calif. At first it was an adjustment to NOT jump out of the car & start pumping myself...LOL, but I quickly got used to it! Now I love it. What a pleasure to sit back nice & warm & dry during the cold months, no getting out in snow ice & rain in your dress clothes anymore...I can converse with my good buddy while he washes my windshield & asks if I want a newspaper or a cold bottle of water. I do not get any gasoline smell on my hands although the newer pumps seem to be better at that nowadays. I get a nice feeling knowing he has a job which is a primary reason we have the no pump law in the first place, it is not because we are too dumb to do it ourselves....lol, it is because WE are smarter than the rest of the country!
I can still fill my motorcycle myself all over Oregon & no one even offers to pump it...they have learned bikers are touchy about that. My station is one of only 2-3 that still offer full service & this particular one has the CLEANEST freshest bathrooms you will ever encounter! Beautiful tile work & maintained hourly or sooner if needed! It has been like going back in time ...the employees get a living wage paid by the owner & insurance...most have been there 15-20 years & are fantastic!
I do not want to go back to self serve BUT I do approve of having the rural stations AFTER hours letting us fill up on a card...You gotta drive the Eastern roads in the late evenings low on gas and not a soul in sight for an hour or more to fully understand why this was passed. I still hope the rest of the state does not give up having attendants!
My wife never has a problem finding someone to pump gas for her, she simply hands me the keys and tells me “Honey it’s down below a quarter of a tank”.
As for lower prices, the thing I noticed was the price at the self service pump stayed the same, and the price at the full service pump went up, often ten to twenty cents a gallon.

When we go to the Jersey shore you can not pump your own gas. I think it's a pain in the ass. There really is no conversations. About 80% of the attendants don't speak English. On the Garden State, it seems to be mostly Africans. Other places either Spanish, India or Pakistani languages.

It was about as popular as attempts to institute a state sales tax, of which we have none. But our income tax is accordingly high.
My wife's niece lives in Olympia, WA. Everybody knows that Washington does't have an income tax but they have a sales tax. What she tells me is when they purchase items, especially expensive items, they go over the bridge to Oregon to buy it. No income tax, no sales tax. My brother used to live in Astoria, OR, which had a Costco outlet. He would tell me how folks from Washington would come to Astoria to shop at Costco.

Coming from MA, we pump our own gas. I think the rest of NE is the same. It feels weird when I travel to NJ for work and I have to let someone else pump!
Of course, I don’t mind during really cold days :)
The only "full service" station I know of in Central Oregon is the Shell station in Bend, by Costco. Attendants are dress in white uniforms, head to toe, with caps, and do the whole shebang for you when you pull in. Kind of fun to watch and reminds of the 50's and 60's. Of course, gas was 20 Cents a gallon then, too, unless there were the "gas wars" going on.
Another big brother make work program in Oregon. If there was a demand for having an attendant pump gas, the station would provide.
BTW, paying an additional 5 cents per gallon more would only cover the wages of 40 years ago.
