Paul, my hat is off to you. I have long admired your skill set and often have them in mind, when I see what I consider to be a worthy comparison. I would say you have left them in the dust, with this current series of incredible images.

Thank you for your kind words Einreb92! I wanted to improve upon the results of my last visit to Bosque and spent a good deal of time thinking and practicing how to make those improvements. But still I needed the wonderful birds and light to bring it all together. Glad you enjoyed.

Thank you Dennis! I came away with nearly 3000 images from the day shown here. The colors on their wings and in their eyes is amazing after looking at most every image in the culling and editing process that took the total to under 100 finals. The geese are pretty neat too. Glad you enjoyed.

Great shots - very sharp. FYI I'm almost certain the goose in the center of the flock photo is a Ross's Goose.

Thank you akretiree! I'll defer to your geese expertise and sharp eye. There were a few cranes without the red caps I found in the images on closer inspection that have me wondering if they were all Sandhill too. Do you know ducks as it was a grab bag of slightly different looking ducks on a pond I've been editing yesterday.

I believe that's correct about the Ross. The skull is more rounded and the beak stubbier than a snow's. I'm no ornithologist but did spend many seasons hunting geese when younger & believe you are correct. Good spot!

Paul, Those are excellent Sandhill Crane photos. You recognize your good fortune in hitting the "magic light" and wind factors at Bosque del Apache; however, if you don't know your quality equipment, arrive on time, and dress appropriately, generic images will result. Best of shooting to you in 2018!

Thank you Barn Owl! Even the Romans knew: Luck is where opportunity meets preparation. Now if I can find the right clothes for an outdoor afternoon here in balmy 17F Chicago....
