Absolutely exquisite, all of them. I'm generally not drawn to BIF images, but these are outstanding and tact sharp. I am totally enamored with #4, the image of the flock flying. The best BIF image I've seen. Excellently done..

Thanks Mike! The 4-bird picture proved to be the best group shot. I have a few more in 2s and 3s that will appear in my 500px and / or Flickr streams over the new few days. Glad you enjoyed.

Happy New Year Camera buyer! The guy nearest me at Bosque by around 40-yards also was on a tripod, but with a 1-series camera and a 600L. You could hear his 10+ burst difference for every 5ish of mine. Working with these birds, and planes back in the summer, has me thinking about the effective differences in the AF systems from my 5DIII.

Thank you Kristen! I agree, you take what you can get. I had decided the cranes were flying along a line of trees from one field to another. So, I changed over there and then they were flying more over the open field ... I moved again and split the difference while moving too halfway down the sloop next to the roadway. I don't know that I was "hidden" as I was in a bright red fleece ...

Their behavior is unaccountable--I haven't figured out the most frightening color yet. But I think I've tried them all! Ha ha ha.

As they say, what a difference a year makes ...

Below are some images from a return trip to the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico, along the Rio Grande about an hour south of Albuquerque. Everything was captured with an EOS 5D III, EF 300 f/2.8L IS II and EF 2.0x III (600mm configuration). I lucked into finding initially snow geese in a corn field. They took off in mass and the cranes began rather quickly to fly in from another field. They were flying into the sun, directly or nearly directly over my position. The camera / lens were mounted to a gimbal head on a tripod.

The images are sized for wide screen display at 1600-pixels. If they overshoot your display, just click the image or the URL link and they'll resize to your screen from Flickr. You can click a bit further into the image details on the Flickr page, if desired. EXIF data is available from host Flickr page as well.

Great shots. I like the fact that you also put down the equipment and exposure you use, I wish ever one would do the same.
