It was quite close--if I recall, the lens was not at full zoom. I only took two frames, and then retreated so he would not spook. f8 is my compromise to keep the shutter speed high enough to hand-hold the camera without resorting to exceedingly high iso settings. It is usually acceptable, but you probably notice the tip of his beak is a little soft. The earlier heron I did was in the plane, so-to-speak, and sharp throughout. Thanks for your comments!
