Uploading desktop photo to Lightroom Classic

When I try to bring a photo stored on my desktop page into LR Classic, the Import Source tab says "no photos found"--when actually there are a dozen photos in a desktop folder called "Untitled Export." How can I get LR to recognize them (this has not been a problem before)?

You will find a way--- on a mac you can just grab it and put into a file---- but you must LEAVE it on the desk top forever, or LR will loose it--- I put such with an upload file I plan to keep--

I don't use a MAC. But I'm not concerned about leaving the photo on the desktop--I just want to be able to get it into Lightroom and edit it!

Did you navigate to Users\You\Desktop and clicked on the Desktop folder in the Source tree on the left?

Yep, that's what I did. I mainly use the desktop folder ("Untitled Export") as a depository of photos from Lightroom that I want to send as an email attachment. I'm really annoyed that it doesn't seem to work the other way!

Change the name of the "untitled folder" to anything else and then LR will see it as a file on the Desktop.

Double-check that you are pointing (in LR) to the correct folder. Is it possible you have more than one User with that folder name in it? As a test create another folder on the Desktop and see if LR can see it. If so, then you are pointing to the right User - try dropping a few picts in the new folder and see if LR can find them. If you don't see the new folder from LR then you are searching the wrong User's desktop. Let us know how you solved the problem.

Had you previously imported the file(s) into lightroom? If you had and then moved them to another folder Lightroom cannot find them because it is looking in the old location. Lightroom is not a storage location, merely a pointer to find the file. Learned that the hard way. I now have a separate hard drive and use the Nikon Transfer software to embed my files in named folders on the drive and never move the originals. Once you import the files into lightroom it will always remember where they are as long as you do not move the originals.

go into lightroom library module find the folder on the folders tab and then right click and synchronize the folder.. It should pick up any photos that are in the folder and not already in lightroom

I changed the name of the folder on the Desktop, and now Lightroom doesn't recognize it at all. Before, it recognized the folder (called Untitled Export), but said No photos found. Now it doesn't even recognize the retitled folder. Ugh.

if you change folder names of folders that lightroom is aware of you need to do that within lightroom suggest you rename it back to what it was exactly and then go into lightroom library module go to the folders tab on the left panel find the folder titled untiled export right click on it and then select synchronize folder from the flyout menu this should bring in any photos in that folder that aren't already in lightroom...

Could you see the photos in the application window? Were they visible but grayed out? If this is the case, you have already imported them into LR. You could re-import them if you chose to by un-clicking on the little box that says "Do not import duplicates" which is probably marked now. Or you could try to figure out what your last import was and look there for the photos. I'd say you may have failed to read the application window last time you imported. Also, on changing names of folders, remember that LR links by name of the folder and/or file and when the name is changed the link is broken.

If you're still desperate try syncing all lightroom files. You will still get a chance to not import stuff you don't want to deal with but this will show if LR can see the missing folder but just hasn't shown it to you yet.
