Starts in Wyoming (Yellowstone Park), and mostly in Idaho and Washington. Borders Idaho and Oregon for a ways.

Why bring it up?

AKA River of No Return - before jet boats that is just what that wild river was.

The Snake River does form Hells Canyon. Hells Canyon is deeper than the Grand Canyon. But not as pretty.

I know not why some refer to this river as being part of the Colorado. Perhaps there’s a valid reason but I’ve not heard it. The Frank Church River of No Retutn Wilderness is in central Idaho. It colloquially refers to both the mainstem and middle forks of the Salmon River. I’ve fished it many times. Some of the best trout fly water in the country. Very hot in summer, tons of mosquitoes & horse flies to pester you. The inland cutthroat trout is spectacularly beautiful.

The Snake River also shares a boundary with the Green River to the southeast; the Green River drains parts of Wyoming and Utah and is the largest tributary of the Colorado River.
