I took this picture in 2011, the space shuttle Atlantis was take off from the last time. I was living in Orlando Florida at that time and was familiar with the area. I went to Canaveral National Seashore, a natural beach. I walked along the beach until I reached the fences for Kennedy Space Center. I put my camera through the chain link fence and got photo from 5 miles away.

What a fine shot Edward. I love the haze, it adds to the mystery of the event. Amazing how loud it is from 5 miles away too, isn't It? My dad saw that launch too.
Great shot from that distance. Did you see the person on the nose cone waving, just funning ya. vz
I took the photo a week before the launch. I would not have gotten that close on the day of launch.

I've walked along a lot of beaches and never came across anything like that.
Really nice to capture that.

Incredible shot from 5 miles away ! What camera/lens were you shooting ? Settings ?
Bill, Canaveral Nation Seashore is natural preserve for wild live. It borders NASA Shuttle facility and the famous launch pad 39A. Unlike beaches in Florida, this is a virgin untouched beach with no houses or hotel anywhere near it. Attached is a picture of pad 39A with the Shuttle carrier in the forground

I stumbled across a website the other day talking about locations to shoot photos of a launch. It mentioned Playalinda Beach, at the south end of Canaveral National Seashore. I'm looking forward to visiting this location...
