I hope you understand you are talking about two different cameras. The D7500 can use the lenses you are using for the D5100. For the D750 you will need full frame lenses for best results.
Quality wise, using the same lens you should not expect to see a big difference between both cameras.
If you do lots of wildlife the D7500 should serve you better.

Most agree the D7200 is a better choice than the downgraded D7500.

If money matters consider a Nikon refurb.

That's easy: D750.

No need for a refurbished. The D7200 is now less than $800 new.

I just bought a D7500 as an upgrade from a D5200. I've been playing with it for exactly 2 days now, so take that into consideration.

I was choosing between the D500 and the D7500; the old-technology D7200 was not a consideration. I also toyed with going FX but opted to remain with DX for several reasons:

I have many DX lenses and I share them with my daughter who is now going to upgrade from her D60 to the D5200.
I take more pictures in tele than I do in wide angle. I may acquired the DX 10-20 at some point, but right now, 18mm is fine for my needs.
FX lenses are heavier than DX.

I ultimately decided for the D7500 over the D500 because I recognized that for my needs (I am not a professional shutterbug,) the D500 was overkill and the D7500 has the exact features that suited me:

The advanced focus and metering of the D500.
The display to help me use the MASP modes when I want to use them.
The scenes when I want to use that.
It's fast and has a large buffer for when I shoot grandkids and swimming competitions.
I do not need 2 SD card slots; I slapped in a fast 128GB card and as always, I upload the pictures out of the camera everyday I use it. I am now investigating SnapBridge.

My first impressions coming from the D5200:
The 7500 is a HEAVY camera. It would be much worse with FX lenses.
It's chunky.
It fits beautifully in my large hands.
The few pictures I have take so far show that it's very smooth and actually because of its weight, it's easier to be steady.

I love the artificial horizon display. That's something I always fight; trying to get as level a picture as I can. This will help.

Lots to discover in this camera, but I can use it right away and I have no worries lending it to my wife or others to take pictures on full auto or with a specific scene set.

Good luck in your selection. I'll be posting more about moving from the D5200 to the 7500 on another thread soon.

If you have lenses for your D5100, get the D7500. If you're thinking about an FX body (full frame rather than cropped sensor) then you won't be sorry with the D750, but you may want to consider the D610 and invest the difference in glass.

The other nice thing about the d750 is that it recognizes the DX lenses. So if that's all you have , still usable. If you are using a FX lens you can pick which crop you want. Pick DX and you get that crop factor, very handy.

I'll second that and looking for good used lenses. Over time there have been some really great lenses made and with a little research and a reputable dealer, you can have some really good glass at substantially less than new lenses. I am one of those who believe good glass takes precedence over the camera body. Good glass on a D610 is a great combo -- in my opinion.

Really can't go wrong either way. Depends upon your photographic interests. I have the D7500 and am very happy with it. Great image quality, dependable performance, fast focus, controlled noise. Can use the AF-P lenses with the D7500- light weight, compact lenses. If not having a back up memory card slot is a deal breaker, go for the D750. If you plan on using really, really old Nikon lenses go with the D750. Try each on for size and then decide. Enjoy!

You certainly won't regret the larger image with which you'll have to work. That has numerous benefits.

That should not even be a question. Get the D750 FF but be aware that you might have to purchase news lenses to make it a complete set. If you have lenses you might be better off going the D7500 if you do not wish to upgrade your lenses.

So, help me out here. If the OP buys a D750 he "might have to purchase news (sic) lenses to make it a complete set?" What does that even mean? Why "might have to?"

I should think that coming from a D5100, there is no "might," it should be a "will."

Thank you everyone, after review I decided to go with the D750. I hope to get to the local bird sanctuary tomorrow for a test run.
