I saw this on another site. The faster you drive, the more gas you use to go the same distance, increasing the relative price per gallon. Click on "Observe the Speed Limit" and enter the info your car.

I have found this to be quite true.
I drive a lot for work to various sites in the area.
55 mph seems to be a good compromise for economy and time in my car. At 65 and above economy really drops.

Where do you get all these links from???? Not complaining. Most are very informative. Thanks for posting. I have a vision of this guy sitting in front of a monster monitor and two more on each side of you. Frantically punching away on your keyboard.

With a speed limit of 65, the Thruway traffic moves at 70 - 75, with lots of vehicles going faster that that. One thing I don't appreciate is an 18-wheeler pulling out to pass another 18-wheeler while they are going up a hill. That seems to be a required move by truckers - block both lanes and then slow down.

That was my point, the average speed is most definitely between 70 & 75. When traveling on the more open stretches, north of Albany, and the long haul between Albany and Buffalo, I set my cruise control to the high 60’s and get passed quite a lot. Someone moseying along at 50 stands a good chance of getting blown off the road by a passing big rig.

Just for the record don’t get me started on the parkways and the infamous Long Island Expressway and the idiots that drive them down on L.I.

My God!! "North of Albany and between Albany and Buffalo" I find it hard to think why anyone would want to go Albany, Buffalo is beyond comprehension. Why would you want to go North of Manhattan??

This would be an attempt at humor.

My worst mileage was in a 1973 Mazda RX-2. It had a 70 c.i. 2 rotor Wankel engine with a 4 barrel; if I babied it, I got 16mpg and then the gas rationing of '74 happened. But, that little thing really did hummmmmm!!! It would take V8s off the line.

Beautiful scenery and family in those far reaches. Also some really great photo opportunities.

P.S., appreciate the humor, though I doubt my brother-in-law would, he’s got a great cabin on more than a few acres of land about an hour south east of Buffalo.

Yeah, don't tell him otherwise he'll start digging the hole.

Chrysler has always made garbage vehicles. Still does.

Totally agree. I remember years ago a Chrysler executive was quoted as saying, "I hate to look at our products on the road after a few years to see how badly they rusted."
He could have also mentioned how lousy their engines were also!

I drive a jeep and anything over 55mph starts to decrease mpg quite a bit, of course you don't drive a jeep for good mpg anyway.
Another thing that most people don't think about is, if you drive over the speed limit on the highway it will take 10 miles at 10mph over the speed limit to save 1 minuet. Doing this usually burns more fuel, increases chance of getting a ticket and increases the chance of an accident. It's just not worth it!

We took my ’15 Ford F-150 with a turbocharged V6, loaded with suitcases in the back seat, from Indiana to Wyoming to Phoenix and back this fall. Speed limits out west are 75 and 80, which I drove, and I got 25-27 mpg for the trip. Around home driving 55 and in town I get about 19 or 20. I guess the critter like the open road.

I have driven from Philadelphia Pa. to St Augustine Fla.on I-95 in my 2005 Corvette a couple times. Average speed around 75 mph, when I wasn't stuck in traffic. I still managed to get 27.9 mpg. Pretty impressive with a 400hp engine. My Honda Acccord coupe 4 cyl. gets 29 mph. Which would you rather drive.

Do love being dyslexic. No spell check for aberrations. Thank MPG. As a note the Abrams M1A1 get 7 gallons per mile, at 70 MPH.
