Thomas, you may know that, I do not. You might think that, I couldn't possibly comment, but there are several of us that could fit in that category, in which I include myself.

Anyhow, Season's Greetings, Happiness, Good Health, and Prosperity, in whatever form you would like those things to occur.

What a relief it was to see the term "sanctimonious" used in this extended discussion.

In the spirit of Peace & Kindness, my wife's colleagues have been texting Season's Greetings and Goodwill messages to each other. They are a small but diverse crowd, covering many nationalities and belief systems (religions: Christian, Muslim, Jewish, others). The messages are all kind and supportive which is good. The boss, who is Iranian Jewish sent this link which we all found hilarious : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8LmMtScH3g

If you are offended by parody, then don't watch. If you are inclusive in your beliefs, then it's pretty funny.

And Happy Christmas, Holidays, Season's Greetings to our friends at Adorama and B&H!

Only here can you have a plea for piece and tranquility and not to be nasty in an original post only to have that post turn into exactly what it was set against. Congratulations everyone, you never fail to disappoint. Love you all.

LOL, I don't guess you noticed that I said I wasn't trying to be the thought, grammar, or spelling sheriff to preface my comments about good communications. I'll tell you, I'm about to be 81, not the sharpest pencil in the box perhaps, was a 10th grade dropout who later went back and got a pretty good well rounded college education and I've been at photography "hit and miss" for almost 50 years and I will unequivocally state to you that if a person can come to uhh and butcher a post so bad that I cannot figure out what they're trying to say, they either need to straighten their butt up with their writing or just not say anything. You can fall back on the fact that this isn't a high school English class to justify laziness if you choose but there is no place on this earth where anyone has a license to create mass confusion just because they are too lazy to make sense in what they say. We already have enough people running around in uhh constantly negotiating for mediocrity without openly excusing idiocy, and I think that's being fairly kind, Merry Christmas!

Hear me people - it does matter and IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO SPELL A WORD, LOOK IT UP OR DON'T USE IT. IF YOU MUST USE A WORD, USE GOOGLE AND ENTER HOW YOU THINK IT'S SPELLED AND GOOGLE WILL GIVE YOU THE CORRECT SPELLING AND MEANING. PLEASE DON'T COME HERE AND POTENTIALLY CONFUSE HUNDREDS OR THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE USING WORDS YOU DON'T KNOW OR DON'T KNOW HOW TO SPELL. It's being very disrespectful to everyone involved. Now, for real everyone, Merry Christmas with nothing but love in my heart and mind.

This is the only photo forum I know of that is not moderated. ANY forum that has at least 1 moderator would eliminate this soulless thing. Heck, he would not even last 24 hours in the FYC subforum. How do you not know that? Is this the only forum you frequent?

I don't think gessman is trying to police anyone's writing style; he's just making a plea for clarity so that readers can understand what is being said. The English doesn't have to be perfect but it should be understandable. I happen to agree with him.

Bravo, good post.

A skill I developed after a career of mostly bad bosses is active ignoring. It means reading BOTH the subject line and the author line. If you aren't interested, or believe the poster is worth reading, DONT! And as far as answering, WHY???

Dear Roni. I'm new here, although not to photography, and I'm looking forward to reading your posts as soon as Christmas has passed and my houseguests have gone. In the event that I receive some unkind messages on this forum I'll just assume that those people are poor miserable souls who can use all human kindness they can get. In the meantime my husband and my little dog and I wish you a joyous Christmas and Happy New Year. Pat Trent

Ok, if you're going to defy reason and insist on being a name calling advocate for the "bottom feeders" of the world, that's fine with me. You apparently know who you are but I want to tell you something, for a person to be sharp enough to have command and use of a computer today, have the ability to negotiate their way across the Internet, find their way to uhh to ask a question or make a comment about a modern Nikon camera but misspells three words in a five word sentence, refuses any attempt to correct their errors, and shows absolutely no regard for whether or not their words convey a cohesive thought, creating nothing but confusion, IMHO, they really don't deserve the attention of conscientious people who are here to help them. Your mileage may vary!

You clearly didn't intend to be mean, but you did identify and stereotype a category of UHH members, and in a negative manner. I'm not sure that anyone took offense, or would consider you to be mean - at least I hope not - but it could have been interpreted by some as a blanket statement, it could also have been interpreted as mean by some. How can you be sure that you weren't delivering a message that was understood in any of those manners, even if unintentional. You can't. You did however stir the pot and received a variety of reactions. Then the discussion took on its own life...

However, in the spirit of kindness and goodwill, let's accept that your intent was pure, and that we extend Season's Greetings to all, regardless of race, creed, or religious affiliation. Even those that are sometimes snarky, sarcastic, self-absorbed, or somewhat intolerant, and try to do a little better next year.

Well said Peterff -- and I'm sure the OP didn't mean anything by the "age" comment. I was surprised by the comment, but it appears to have been accidental.

Yes -- Happy Holidays to everyone on UHH, of all races, political affiliations, gender, religious beliefs, and age, etc...!! -- and a Happy New Year!!

Like Matt Granger always says -- "Get your gear out!"

Bill, as I see it Gessman is requesting that people think about the questions they are asking, the comments they are making, and try to express them with some degree of clarity and comprehension. It isn't so much about criticizing spelling or grammar, just taking the effort to post in a clear and comprehensible manner.

Those that do not bother to do that are being disrespectful of the UHH membership. There are many poorly conceived questions or constructed comments posted that cause people to wonder what the poster was attempting to communicate. It wastes peoples' time and effort, and inhibits the effort taken to assist them and their desire for answers.

Is it unreasonable to ask people to think about what they are trying to communicate, regardless of their linguistic ability?
