I've just started trying to learn to do astro shots. Began reading up this spring & didn't take any actual shots until September. While I know this isn't perfect, most particularly, to me, because of the slight star trailing. I followed the 500 rule carefully but think next year I will back off a bit for better pinpoints. Shot with a Nikon Df, Nikkor 24mm f2.8D, mirror up, cable release. 20 exposures stacked each at 21 seconds. It was a fair bit of effort for 1 image, something I'm not used to. Standard tripod w/o tracking. I have miles to go but am pleased with this early effort. Shot from our property at about 4700ft elevation a bit north of Crater Lake National Park in the Oregon Cascades.

There are some amazing photos in this thread. Good idea.
My favorite is this "Flying Lady". It's taken on South Padre and I didn't see her until I looked at my photos on my computer.
Pg.5 Beautiful shot Marsha, even with the "Flying Lady".

I was lucky enough to be able to work with this once endangered species, the California or Southern Sea Otter, and now they have made a good comeback. Photo of mom with pup in Morro Bay, CA taken in March 2017. chase

Chosen because I’m a car guy. Shot with an iPhone and converted to bw (Jag was black). I’d left the D300 in my car and only had the phone when I saw this angle and was too lazy to retrieve it but turned out OK. The reflections of foliage add an interesting element.
I just showed this to Husband - XK-120 - he was very impressed!!

This was hand held and so is not very sharp but it was a memorable sight!

It was a great year for Barbara's gardens; particularly roses!

I have posted this before on UHH but repeat it here for purposes of your thread. It was published as a "Daily Dozen" by National Geographic in July 2017.
http://yourshot.nationalgeographic.com/profile/1561635/#awardsOf note is the fact that it was the UHH community who urged me to crop the shot to make it stronger. This advice I took to heart and was grateful to have the shot noted by Nat Geo. I was the beneficiary of very helpful comments on this forum for which I am still grateful.

I am not surprised that this image made it into NatGeo.
Here one of my best shots this past year. I followed this guy around for an hour before I could get this shot. Hope you like it!
Here is my other favorite. I shot this in Nebraska this last summer. Hope you like it!
