How about keeping a list--that’s what I do, and I have no problem.
Wish I could. My "1Password" list has 749 items which are shared between my computers, iPhone, etc. Finding & updating does not sound like fun.

I use 1Password as well. I like to let it generate my passwords, but, because my memory is becoming moth-eaten, I print out the password when I create it and cut it out then tape it to an index card. I can also open 1Password, scroll down to the list of places where I use passwords and copy it and paste it on the site that needs it. Works fine if I remember to put the new one on a card.
When a web pages asks for a password, I hit Command-\. 1Password fills in the password. Done-no typing. If there's more than one possibility, 1Passwords lists them. I click on the correct one. I used to print out the password list. Now, I archive the file as a PDF to an SD card with the master 1Password password and save it in a safe place.

Have I ever mentioned that I hate passwords, and Apple's system in particular? Of course I have. I have spent hours on my iMac 27 this morning trying to sign in to various things, with little success. Sure, LastPass and Google can remember thousands of passwords, but they don't insert them when I need them. If I had LastPass make up a p/w for me, it would be impossible to remember it, and when I had to fill it in on my own, I would be stuck.

Some sites require a special character, but other sites forbid them. Some sites will not let me use any password that I have ever used before. Apple made me go through several because it said some were too easy to guess. Really? They say you shouldn't use one password for everything, but that isn't possible because different sites have different requirements. My email password works on my email site, but Apple will not accept it to retrieve email from the site. It says it is wrong.

What's most frustrating is changing a password and then not being able to sign in with it. And why does Apple require so many passwords? Couldn't I have just one? I went through a very lengthy process to change my Apple password, but when I tried to use it for something, it said it was invalid. The stupid keychain never works, and I keep getting windows popping up asking me if I want to reset to default. I click Yes, but it can't do that, and it can't Cancel, either, so that stupid keychain window keeps popping up. What a morning!

I'm not looking for help or advice, because this is like running through quicksand, and there is nothing that will help. I'm just letting off steam.

I agree completely, Jerry. The ONLY solution that I've come up with is that I have a zip drive that has a txt copy of All of my passwords and the sites they go to.. Yes, I know that I'm up a creek if I loose the zip drive.

I keep them on a spreadsheet; when I have to have a new one, I simply add it and alphabetize again. They’re always ready.

Check out RoboForm. It takes all the worries out of passwords. Addresses everything you said.

Sorry for the difficulty, Jerry. It can be extremely frustrating.
Take a break, have a glass of something that pleases you and relax. This too will go away.
Have a Wonderful Holiday Season!

The only reason I keep an Apple account is I still have a dollar balance. Some family member gave me a gift card to them and I haven't seen anything I just have to have. They won't let me spend in a physical Apple Store. Bleh.

Just last night I tried to order some cameras online. $1,200+USD. The checkout page wouldn't let me use my e-mail addr. The same e-mail addr. that I was on when I clicked on to open their own website. It said to use a 'valid' e-mail! Needless to say they lost a $1,200 dollar order. I went to another site with no problems.

I have used RoboForm Everywhere password manager for the past 8 years. Occasionally, I face difficulty with a stored logon, but, very occasionally. It syncs with my desktop, laptop, wife's & my iPhones, and her iPad. I'd be lost without it. It has one security master password, which must be entered to have access to the stored passwords for websites. One click and I auto logon to hundreds of websites. If inactive for 30 minutes, I must logon and reenter the master password. Takes seconds to regain access to logons for all websites.

I have a very stupid question about password vaults like Norton. If some gets a hold of your vault key/password, they then would have all of your passwords? Probably missing something, but that question has bothered me for a long while.

They'd also have to get into the password manager via your computer/device. I don't worry about such things. I've lost credit cards, one in the NYC subway - no charges to it in the aftermath. CC companies do not hold owners responsible for "hacked" charges. Unless one does no online purchasing and does not have a credit card, everything has vulnerability. The media hypes the danger because, as in prescription drugs, they can make money with advertisements. Of all the people I know, not one has suffered a financial loss due to hacking, ... I'm sure it happens, but I don't worry anymore about the risk than expiration dates on mustard. (Yes there is an expiration date on containers of mustard). I wonder what happens if it is consumed subsequent to the date. LOL

I keep a copy of all my passwords in a ziplock bag and keep them in the freezer.
Jerry, I use Apple's Keychain. Works great.

I have a scribbler with pw since I needed my first one. It is in the fire proof home safe within 2 steps of my computer. Now occasionally I'm away on a mobile device. It has helped to use only 5 or so at a time and like has been mentioned use a phrase you can easily recall. One of my previously use included the word street but it is inputted like this: StR33T.
I haven't had to go to the "vault" in over 3 years since using phrasing.
