Have you ever checked to see how many orders you have placed with Amazon? As of right now, I have placed 255 orders in 2017. That's orders, rather than individual items. Last year, it was 187, and in 2015, it was 139. My Chase card give me a 3% rebate on all Amazon orders. When I think of the gasoline and wear and tear on my car this has saved me, I'm grateful to Amazon and Prime. One round trip into town takes an hour, and that's without driving from store to store trying to find what I want.

Except for food I do all my purchasing online. I get 2% cash back on *all* purchases with my Fidelity credit card, not just Amazon. And then there's the free video streaming from Amazon Prime. It's a new world we live in.

And I as well. Last year I used Amazon, B&H, Adorama, Cambridge Camera, ebay, Greentoe, Canon and Cameta for all of my photographic purchases. In fact, I haven't been in a camera store in two years. 98% of my purchases are done online with the exception of groceries, gas and the library. The mileage on my SUV went down substantially last year.

And have you noticed all the shops closing down? In some places, the shopping areas are almost all 'charity shops' and cell phone shops.

a recent report suggests that there has been a 20% increase in car journey times due to the large increased number of delivery trucks and vans. They are clogging our roads.

Whereas the 'postman' had a 'known' delivery time - everyone else delivers (or not) as and when..up to 10pm from Tesco's...You end up waiting.....not the delivery service - it would have been quicker to 'pop out' to a shop.

It is a financial gain for the consumer, whilst there is competition, but in the long term....what happens to the retail market and their employment. Everything you can want has an on-line shop and some still have a premisses that you can visit....but not for long,

Using cash had its downfalls for a few getting mugged....it seems shopping on line has increased financial crime and credit card crime especially, to levels that even the banks are screeming. Can you think of any way that this will ever decrease. No-one is safe! That is a hell of a cost....for what?....a booming Chinese economy!

I see that some of the people who are using Amazon say 'except for groceries'. Well, I was having some medical problems so I decided to try their 'Fresh' deliver of grocery items. I love it. I live alone and I can look through all kinds of frozen foods and get them delivered right to my door the next day. I can also get everything else that I'm looking for delivered as well. I really love it. I hardly ever go into stores any longer. I do pick up my Diet Coke at the pharmacy when they have sales on it, but other than that, I just order everything I want on-line.

Maybe you don’t see or realize it, the price of convenience is robbing us of the beauty of human interactions.

That is true, but what in life comes with no losses?

I do like the convenience and money saving of purchasing online but I do not do all of my shopping online. I like the hands on feel and info that I can sometimes gain by talking to someone. That is if they know what they are talking about and that is easy to discern. Many sales people do not know squat. But I guess they are new to the job but they will never let on and just blabber on like they know everything. I like to use a local printer for my mountable lab work and he does a great job of being able to make the photo as it should be and not to fit some pre-boxed format. Beside I would hate to see all of the local boys go out of business because it would eventually leave me in a lurch. So support locally because the job you might save might just be your own.
Besides by not shopping locally and seeing what is available one might just be cheating themselves. But shopping online leads to contentment and in many cases it is good. Just last week we discovered a new bread that we had not tried before and it is great. Shopping at the store gives us the opportunity to explore and discover many things that we were not aware of. Many people have many ideas that I have not thought of. Do not limit yourself is my motto. But in some cases there are no other options.

You seem to have forgotten that, according to the Supreme Court, corporations are people too. So when you buy from Amazon, you are engaging in human interaction.

Could that ruling be flawed or not applicable in this case. Just sayin'.

I'm with you. I love Amazon Prime. Why fight the crowds when you need new underwear. Couple of clicks, and two days later, even on Sundays, I have my stuff. Walmart/Kmart/Target maybe see me once or twice a year, now Menard's is another story...

I don’t declare myself as conservative or liberal, kinda some of both, but that was one of the dumbest rulings in the history of the SCOTUS.

I see no one mentioned Amazon Smile in this discussion. If you buy a lot from Amazon you can make a difference by going to smile.amazon.com. For every eligible purchase Amazon will make a donation to a charity of your choice. Once you're signed up, if you follow a link to an item they ask if you want to be redirected to the same item on smile.amazon.com so the donation gets made. This doesn't cost you anything, the funds come from Amazon. I place about 40 Amazon orders a year. I selected the American Diabetes Association as my charity. They only get a few bucks from my orders but overall this organization received over $78,000 and all the charities combined received almost $70,000,000!
