Can someone tell me how to get shot of moon rise with canon eos rebel ?
Longest lens you have focused at infinity, camera set on manual, f8, ISO 400, spot metering, adjust shutter speed for proper exposure. Use a tripod. Works for me on a 60D with a 120-400 Sigma lens.
Keep in mind that horizon moonrise shots will have atmospheric distortions, haze, etc. Waxing and waning moons well above the horizon show the most detail at the edge of the moonlit surface.
Thank you i guess i need longer lense not sure how set to infinity im amateur

See the lazy 8 in this screen shot? That is the infinity mark in the focus window on a Nikon Lens. All lenses have this lazy 8 as the mark for infinity.

Sorry all lenses DO NOT have a focus scale. I have three different Nikon zoom lenses (all of them are AF-S, DX lenses) and NONE of them have a focus scale.

Hi, it would be cheaper to buy a Canon SX-50 superzoom camera than buy a large lens. You will need a tripod and a cable release. set your tripod with the centre column locked down, your ISO set at 100, f8, adjust shutter speed as needed. Regards, Alfie.
PS, see my Topic,
Super Moon rising.

Manual mode. iso 100. 125 sec at f16 as a starting point. Adjust to taste.

Or...keeping it simple...shooting the moon by itself with no foreground...tripod, 500mm or so lens, aperture priority, iso 100, f8, spot metering, auto focus.
Nearly impossible with a Canon Rebel for moon shot and affordable lens. I agree with alf85 when he suggested it would be cheaper to get a Canon SX50 for moon shots. here's one of mine with the SX50 at ISO 200, f6/5 and shutter 1/640. AND, I agree low to horizon will be subject haze and distortion. Higher in the sky much sharper.

The idea that it's nearly impossible with a Canon Rebel and an affordable lens is completely wrong. This photo was taken with my Canon Rebel T3i and my EF 75-300 f4-5.6 lens. This is one of the cheapest zoom lens of this range that Canon makes. It's imperative to use a tripod, but it can be done. Settings were f6.3, 1/160, ISO 100 focal length at 300mm.
Whuff, I commend you on a fine shot of the moon. Pretty hard to imagine that is a 300mm photo. Did you crop it extensively?

Yes, I should have mentioned that it was cropped quite a bit. I was actually surprised at how well it turned out. As I mentioned, it was on a tripod and I used Live View and the 10X magnification with manual focus to get it as sharp as I could and used a shutter cable. Since the lens does not give the best sharpness at it’s full reach I would have liked to back it off a bit but needed the 300 mm.
